No more FM transmitter for me!,
By
This review is from: Car Cassette Adapter For MP3,iPod,XM,CD,MD,Sirius (Electronics)
What I wanted was to use an FM transmitter to pipe my iPod and my Sirius radio. Unfortunately I live in a big city (Phoenix, AZ) and in my route to work the radio stations change just enough that I cannot find any FM stations to transmit on without interference. I have a 2002 Porsche Boxster S and for whatever reason, Porsche put a tape deck in that model stereo. I bought this tape adapter and presto no more FM transmitter! I had to make the modification mentioned in a review for "Coby CA-747 Dual Position CD/MD/MP3 Cassette Adapter" to bypass the automatic tape flip feature. (It seems to be fairly common for people to have to do this with tape adapters.) The Porsche unit has a door that flips open and closed to access the tape deck. This door must be closed for the unit to play. I had to carefully feed the tape adapter cord through the face plate in a place where it did not pinch it upon closing the door. This turns out to be the middle top of the face plate.
This tape adapter unit works like a charm. I've only had it for a week but I already love it. One thing I noticed in using a tape adapter with the ipod is that the sound quality improves if I only turn the ipod volume up to 50% and use the stereo volume for the rest of the sound. I plug this adapter unit directly into the iPod. I don't notice any static or distortion now that I balanced the iPod volume.

iPod/Mp3 cassette adapter to play in car,

I had heard bad things about quality etc. I was very impressed. It sounds as good as anything else that I play in the car, you can not buy cassettes anymore but now I can play my iPod and my daughter's MP3. And you can't beat the price even if it didn't work well.

This is very low-tech but honestly this is TONS better than those radio-frequency models that drive you batty when you enter any large-ish City.

As is, this product will not work with a auto-reverse tape decks. I had read the reviews and thought I could get it to work by using the trick of opening the tape up and removing a specific gear. This trick did not work for me though. My car is a 2001 Infiniti G20 with a Bose cd/tape combination (in case anyone out there is looking for a tape adapter and has the same car as me). From what I can tell, tape decks seem to be very fickle and there is no perfect adapter that works for every car. This item might work for some cars, but it did not work with mine. I ended up buying a Sony model, which has been working well so far.

I was skeptical about this product and did not expect much from it, but I figured it was less than a quarter plus shipping costs so I would take my chances. It was shipped quickly, arrived, and the pacakaging made me even more worried that I'd lost my money. Very non descript, plain packaging, with no shipping or order information. When I finally tried it out, I was very shocked and pleasantly surprised at the HIGH quality product! It plays crystal clear music through my cassette deck in my car and I LOVE it! Very highly recommended!

Great product!,

I tried the FM transmitter type car adapter for my ipod, but I've never had much success with that type. This cassette adapter fits right into the ipod audio output (so ipod type does not matter). Once I plugged it in and played it, it sounded great, even though my car is relatively old with a stock sound system. Basically, this product does exactly what it needs to do, and it does it well.

the first day i got this i was shocked at the relatively good quality it put through, then every day i thought it got worse but i just assumed it was the different music i was listening to.. but today it was just unbearable, the bass was completely broken like it was putting out scratchy loud noise in part of the bass so i had to turn it off and listen to the radio. i hate the radio.
btw i live in northern nj, maybe it's the cold? but i don't understand why yesterday was fine and today all of a sudden it was unbearable.. it was like 30F today not thaaat bad

1st day review.
So I received this adapter in the mail today and decided to try it out. I got it for $0.01 + S&H which was.... $2.98 hah... Like many others stated, it DOES come in the plainest packaging you'll ever lay your eyes on. When I popped it in I noticed A LOT of clicking and hissing. Disappointed was a bit of a understatement as to how i felt. So I remembered to come back to amazon reviews and check out other peoples "fixes" to their problems. Luckily most of them didn't apply to me like the one where the cassette wouldnt play unless the lid closed. I read the part where you would UP THE VOLUME of the car stereo and LOWER the volume of the Mp3 player to around 25%. It did NOT work. Heck it made it worse. I tried what another poster mentioned about ignoring the this side up notice and putting it upside down. THAT removed the clicking noise, but I was still left with a loud HISS noise. I kept wracking my brain and figured I should try removing the plastic covering. That also didn't make a difference. So after following everyones advice, I gave up and tried the OPPOSITE by LOWERING the volume of my car stereo to 50% and RAISING the volume of my mp3 player 80% . The result? clicking/hissing is GONE and replaced with clear crisp music. Hopefully what I've written here will be of help to some of you out there, since it really sounds like the opposite of what many others are doing to get great sound out of theirs. One thing to note with this cassette adapter compared to others is that there is a filter like inflated bass added.

Broke my whole car,

When I got this item, I was amazed. It worked pretty well and I could listen to my ipod all the time. Within a month or so of owning it, however, it got stuck in my cassette player and wouldn't come out. When we finally got it out, it had damaged the radio and the radio wouldn't turn off. That meant that when I would leave my car at night, it would be out of battery by the morning and I wouldn't be able to start it to get to work! We had to install a switch in my car that turns off the radio so I can save battery, but I still can't listen to cassettes!

I bought this in a dilemma whether to go for a FM transmitter or cassette adapter. The city where I live doesn't have enough frequencies to catch and had to go with this.
Reading some real bad reviews about cassette adapters, I was skeptical to go with this. Let me tell you,I didnt had any problems with this. I use iphone to play songs in my car and it works perfect!!!!!!. But, once I tried to forward a song using my car controls and this led to volume control issue on my iphone. I can no longer reduce or increase the volume in ipod app but can control the same using the volume control button in iphone. I don't know it is due to forwarding using car controls or it is the ipod app problem. After a while, everything is normal and I never again played with my forward/rewind buttons in my car cassette player :). I would recommend this to everyone. Pradp |
