I swear I heard Motown music while reading,
This review is from: Car and Driver's American Road Warriors: Classic Muscle Cars (Hardcover)
I bought this book for a friend who's a refurbisher of muscle cars. I'm absolutely, positively keeping the book and maybe he'll get a case of oil or something in its place. For anyone who remembers the automobile era of 1962-1972, this book is a treasure. The writing is exciting, the car specs and test results are informative, and the pictures simply jump off the page. Remember the car called "The Judge?" That's right "The Judge" has a section with glossy orange picture, spoiler and all.
I couldn't help opening the book up on the bus ride home after buying it. No less than five guys on the bus gathered around me to ooh and aah while reminiscing about the cars in the book. Everyone seemed to have a story as well as a favorite car. I'm sure we all resembled fishermen sitting around talking about the big barracuda that got away. Speaking of barracuda's, yep its in here, along with the "Super Bee," the "Road Runner," the "Duster" and the "Mustang Boss." So you see what I mean when I say you can hear Motown sounds playing in the background while remembering these beautiful machines of muscle and power. GTO is well represented throughout the book. For those who don't know and should feel ashamed of themselves for it, the classic picture on the dust cover is that of a GTO Tempest, not to be confused with the Ferrari GTO. And on the back dust cover you'll find an advertisement that says "Free Poster Inside The Cover." Can't find it? Feel like you got cheated? Don't worry, its there. Just take the dust cover off the book and flip it around. There is where you'll find a full length glossy of the most beautiful pin up to ever lay herself out for a shutterbug. She's Beautiful, buy her and get rid of that virtual copy of her on your desktop. She's much better to observe in hard copy or on a wall.

Wow. Anyone who is a fan of American Muscle cars needs this book. Beautifully produced in coffee table format, it's all there to help you relive the glory days of American Muscle. Phenomenal photos, road test results, specs, and stories as they originally appeared in the pages of Car and Driver. Very well done and laid out in good, chronological order, taking you from the birth of the muscle car through to the sad ending, brought on by insurance companies, gas prices, and environmental concerns. I'd say the only people who will be disappointed are American Motors fans since there were no stories or reviews on AMX's, Javelins, or any other AMC cars. Other than that, two thumbs up.
