+1/2 -- Gritty blues from Detroit,
By
This review is from: Car Wash (Audio CD)
This Detroit quintet serves up gritty electric bar blues, adding a funky edge to a style derived from Albert Collins, Steve Ray Vaughn, and others. Their second album features a solid rhythm section, with Shannon Boone's drums mixed favorably hot - it gives the album the sort of punch you'd expect to hear in a club setting. Mike Smith's guitar and Johnny Evans' harp and sax each provide memorable riffs and solos, and vocalist Tino Gross sings with both swagger and grit. Howling devils, indeed! 3-1/2 stars, if allowed fractional ratings. [©2005 hyperbolium dot com]

More great music from Alive Records,

This review is from: Car Wash (MP3 Download)
Absolute blast! The previous reviews are all right on the money. Alive Records has another winner - funky, gritty, bluesy, whatever. The sax is mixed in perfectly, to give them their own sound. If you like Left Lane Cruiser or Black Diamond Heavies, you'll like this. Not quite as dirty, but just as fun.

These guys rule the Detroit blues/rock scene. Lead singer Tino Gross has written another collection of gems. A party album, for sure. And as the Diablos sing, "there is no party like a Detroit party because a Detroit party don't stop!" The audio on "Car Wash" is much better than "Green Bottle" (which is still a superb album; you just have to fiddle with tone controls to "open up" the sound). Set your CD player to "repeat" and play them LOUD. They carry on the Detroit tradition of non-stop blues and rock. Looking forward to their live album. They are one of the best live bands since the MC-5.
