4.0 out of 5 stars Superb Scottish Tenor! October 20, 2007
Format:Audio CD
When the song "Cara Mia" is mentioned, almost everyone thinks of Jay & The Americans. Not a chance. Here is the original, recorded in the early 1950s with the Mantovani orchestra.

My favorite of this collection is "When You Lose The One You Love." It's just an absolutely beautiful song. Some of the songs here I can take or leave, but all are worth the inclusion.

Most of the ballads are with the Mantovani orchestra (these songs are taken directly from the CARA MIA album issued in the early 1950s). Given the age of these recordings, they all sound almost perfectly modern (with the one exception that they are mono, not stereo). Decca records (known as London Records in the U.S.) always paid great attention to their technical aspects of recording, and were usually on the forefront of spectacular-sounding records.

David is a Scottish tenor, and you may think he wouldn't be to your liking, but hey, this is a wonderful record, if for no other reason than the inclusion of the original recording of "Cara Mia," and for that reason and others, it's certainly worth being added to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I wanted November 23, 2008
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I saw David Whitfield on the Ed Sullivan show back in the 50's when I was in high school. He sang Cara Mia. I fell in love. Got the sheet music back then. Finally could afford the CDs. They're everything I wanted. Thanks so much. Love ordering from Amazon. You always deliver.
