New "Good Old Soul Jazz" by Donaldson & Co,
By
This review is from: Caracas (Audio CD)
This 1993 recording is very similar to the records Donaldson made in the sixties in terms of concept,,,souljazz played by an hammond B3 quartet...still after some 25 years Donaldson is using the same organplayer...the groovemaster Dr Lonnie Smith..no wonder he is one of the best organ players...he can play anything...funk.bebop.ballads.blues...and in fact it is his organplaying that lifts this CD...check out Night Train and Caracas,,,Lou did the last one already 1963 on his "Good Gracious" CD with John Patton on the B3 and Grant Green on the guitar. The Guitar player here is Pete Bernstein..and as always,,he is sounding just great.
