Alexkid - Caracol, October 5, 2011
This review is from: Caracol (Audio CD)
Alexkid goes much darker and deeper with his third album, CARACOL. After a vocodered introduction, "Decibelly" dives right into the deep hear of things and morphs into an acid-tinged groover, while "Nightshade" delivers some dirty electro with a breathy vocal delivery by Lissette Alea. And even if the letters quoted on "Love Letters" don't make much sense, the solid beat quickly eliminates all doubt. "Orm" is pure tech-house, with deep tones, like the heavy breathing of a giant, while the title track almost veers into acid territory, though the tropical suggestions delve into a jungle safari. "Mare Alta" has more of a shimmer, and the final track, "Back And Forth" is as calm and pretty as all get-out -- more of the Alexkid we're used to. That's not to say, of course, that his new direction is no great shakes... to the contrary, it's a good step for him.
