First, thank you Amazon for such a speedy delivery...my 84 set of Caran d Ache watercolor crayons arrived quickly and in perfect condition. I was a little nervous ordering art supplies from a non-art company - but my nervousness was unnecessary! The metal box and all 84 crayons were in excellent shape. Amazon also has the best price, roughly $40 to $50 less than the other major retailers, always a good thing!
The crayons themselves are everything I wanted them to be. The colors, the pigmentation, the flow and luminous shades when water is added - such a pleasure to use!! They can be used with many other mediums as well (such as acrylic paint and colored pencils, graphite pencils, watercolor paint, and watercolor pencils) and on all kinds of different papers and supports. I am sure that I will make many more discoveries and use them in many more different ways. The possibilities are many.
This product is a savings for me! I have been using copics for 1/2 a year already. Now I find that water colour crayons are even better. The price is reasonable and the crayons can last longer. My friend has a set which is already 5 years old and is still looking good. That's why I decided to switch to Caran crayons.
With or without a brushful of water to 'melt' the colors together, these create quick, intense and satisfying pictures. Great color selection with same names as professional watercolors. Used by adult artists in our household, though it makes us feel like kids!
These are really quite amazing. I bought the set of 84 and the beautiful range of colors are outstanding. It took a little practice to get accustom to the technique of using them. They blend pretty well when you continue to work with water. Only small complaint is that the coloring marks show even after water blending. This issue only applies to watercolor paper so far as I have not had the chance to try on a smoother surface. But the vibrancy of the color when you apply additional layers of crayon is so gorgeous. I am very happy I have them and definitely recommend for mixed media artists.
Beautiful textures and vibrant colour laid down. Mixes well together like watercolours but with more body. Caran d'Arche has always been my favourite since student days. Pigment is very stable. If you use these with the wax insoluble crayons it gives another aspect. I want to try these on different surfaces and see how they go.
Even though, I am only an amateur artist at present time. I have used allot of different media to paint, draw, and color with. These are very excellent crayons to use. Yes, I would recommend them to professional and amateur artist alike. If you are going to start a career in art or, if you are just doing it for a hobby, it is still recommended you use the best materials to start off on the right foot. Cheap crayons will give you cheap looking art. So, use these type of crayons and you want go wrong.
