4.0 out of 5 stars Better than you might expect for its time, June 29, 2009
Four years after the immortal hit "Flashdance," Irene Cara made this largely unsuccessful album that at least does a good job of living up to its title. The opener "Get A Grip" is a fun, bouncy, and very 1987-sounding song, and the rest of the album is well-crafted and distinguished by solid production from the great George Duke and a long list of upper-class guests and session players, including James Ingram and Luther Vandross.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Strong Return...., December 6, 2005

'Carasmatic' was Irene's return to the music world 1987 and I was happy to see her back... "Girlfriends" was the first single & Video released and it got some airplay & then it just disappeared!!! no more promotion! with George Duke producing 5 of the 9 cuts, with that great 80's sound how could Irene miss with this lp\cd?? I think if this was released in 1985 it would've done better...'Now That's It Over' is a strong power ballad where Irene's voice really shines...'Get A Grip', 'Give Me Love', 'We're Gonna Get Up' are all 80's mid-tempo grooves..
'Girlfriends' has a great 60's girl group sound, 'Falling In Love' is another nice ballad, Irene fans should try and seek this one out, I know it's hard to find..the lp and cd both went of print so fast!

4.0 out of 5 stars Stunning voice, July 24, 2005

While I was rather disappointed with Irene's first two albums (very 80s sound, not so good songs), this album proves to be stronger. The songs give her melody and material to sing and the production is more steady. Irene had a follow up of several singles; most of them were rather weak except "I can fly/Girlfriend". She has such a wonderful voice and one wonders why she wasn't given any better material.
