Anti-Gravity Chairs: Strathwood Basics vs. Caravan Canopy:

I bought 2 different anti-gravity chairs. I originally bought the Caravan Canopy for me. I was going to try it out and then buy the oversized one for my husband (he's 6'1 & about 230 pounds. A big guy but not fat. I'm 5'6 & 150 pounds. Not fat. Not thin.)

I didn't like the Caravan Canopy. My husband sat in it and liked it, so I kept it and ordered the Strathwood Basics. I like the Strathwood much better. My husband likes the Canopy better.

Here is the comparison:
Caravan Canopy:
The locking mechanism didn't really work. I like to lock my chair halfway so I can be leaning back a bit but still read. So this was the biggest thing for me. I also felt that the material was stretched a bit too tight, and I found it slightly uncomfortable. Not enough give. And finally, I found the arm rests a bit too thin. The seat part was slightly too wide.

My husband liked: The length. It fit him perfectly. He didn't find it uncomfortable. He felt that the Caravan was wider than the Strathwood and fit him better. It also seemed more sturdy and didn't move as much when he shifted around.

Strathwood Basics:
I liked that it was more comfortable & seemed to have more "give." I liked the foot rest better, too. It has sort of a flat rubber piece that the Caravan didn't have, that made it more comfortable for foot resting. The arms were wider, and I liked that. The locking mechanism WORKS! It's in a somewhat awkward place, and I'm not wild about that, but not a deal-breaker. I like that you can lock one side OR the other and it locks the chair into place. I liked the width.

My husband liked the length and liked the foot rest-thing better than the Caravan.

This chair has a sturdy frame. The chair is light and easy to fold. The fabric looks, feels, and is rich. The chair is the most comfortable chair I have ever purchased and I have purchased many. The purchase was delivered in a timely fashion and there was NOTHING to put together. I would recommend this chair to anyone! The biggest problem you will encounter will be to keep out people out of it; so you can sit in it yourself!

You can drop a grand on expensive wrought iron or wicker furniture OR you can get something more comfortable and more versatile for a fraction of the cost! Using this chair, you can sit up straight, recline partially (which i usually do), or recline to a sleeping position and I find each of these positions to be very comfortable. It does not, however, allow you to lay out flat, such as if you wanted lay on your stomach. You will need a true lawn chair for that. This chair is similar in operation to a recliner but it reclines further and puts your feet higher than most recliners do.

Most of you are probably wondering about the length and size of the chair, so I will do my best to give you an idea. I am 6'1" and 200 lbs. When I lay on the chair with my legs extended, the bottom bar rests under my achilles. However, I rarely sit like that - I usually use the bar as a foot rest and is one of my favorite features. If i do straighten my legs with my achilles on the bar it is not uncomfortable. Without the pillow, the top of my head would rest on the top bar. But since the pillow can be moved up pretty high, I would say it could accommodate someone even a little taller than me. I would not get the wide version because it would be unnecessarily more expensive and would put the armrests farther out. My father-in-law is 5'11" 270 lbs and is also comfortable in this chair.

These chairs fold up tightly and store easily in our garage when not in use. If you grab the right part (turn them sideways and grab the middle bar) it carries easily with one hand.

Some people have complained about the grips slipping when the chair partially reclined. I have noticed this too, but only if I'm moving around, like if I lean forward to reach for something.

I just got my chair today, and I'm sitting in it as I write this. I read various reviews both for this model and the oversized chair. Based on the reviews (which I interpreted as fairly average overall), I decided that a chair is really a personal thing as far as "fit". Not everyone is proportioned the same. That being said, I am a 5'8" female and fairly *well-nourished* for my height, which made me question whether this chair would suit my needs. I won't say how much I weigh, because that's a personal thing too, lol. We'll just say that my hips don't touch the inside of the bars on either side of the seat. ;)

I might have purchased the oversized chair except that it was more costly, and it's *brown*. :Q

This chair seems to have been designed for someone around 5'6" or 5'7". Any taller than me, and your feet will be hanging off the foot bar. With my legs fully extended the backs of my heels rest right on the top of it. While wearing my Crocs - and with the bottoms of my feet resting *on* the foot bar - my ankles are angled outward a bit. The weight of my laptop pushes my feet out of position, which is unfortunate since I use my laptop for my home-based business probably 16 hours a day. I wear my Crocs for about that long too, and I plan to use this chair a lot (I'm moving to a house with an awesome backyard view of the mountains, ya know ;). The awkwardness of how my feet rest on the foot bar is less of a concern when I lean back, but it's uncomfortable having to crane my neck upward to type.

Now for the "dual fingertip locking system". These latches are a bit unsophisticated to label them a "system", lol. I have found them next to useless. I pushed them all the way in, pulled them all the way out, and it took all 4 fingers to do it.
