This Book Turned My Life Around In Two Weeks!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Heart Program: Break Your Carbo-Insulin Connection to Heart Disease (Hardcover)
There is nothing worse than being a fat, out-of-condition cardiologist! You know your patients are wondering how you can be giving advice when you look like you're going to have a heart attack yourself any minute.Until I found this book I had all but given up.My father and his two brothers suffered heart attacks by age 55. My mother's family had diabetes. I felt as if I was headed straight for a heart attack. My blood fat levels, blood pressure, blood sugar levels and weight were getting worse no matter I tried. I had seen this time and time again in my patients but, to tell the truth, low-fat diets just didn't work for me. I couldn't stay on them and they seemed to make my blood fat levels worse. In the two weeks after finding this book my life has turned around. My cravings are gone - gone - gone. My blood pressure, triglycerides, and blood sugar levels are normal! I'm losing weight even though I have a Reward Meal of my dreams every night.I knew this program made sense when I read it. It was built on good science and it was the first program I felt I could believe in. But living it is even better than I could have hoped for.I started giving copies of this book to my patients. The immediate results appear to be just a great for them. I just want everyone to know that this program not only makes good sense and is easy to follow but that it works, too!

Definitely not just a re-hash of their earlier books,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Heart Program: Break Your Carbo-Insulin Connection to Heart Disease (Hardcover)
This book is definitely not just a re-hash of their earlier books. Although it follows most of what they previously wrote, it contains MAJOR improvements and refinements over their old program. Some that I found particularly intereststing are as follows:1) Artificial sweeteners are now identified as being culprits in raising blood insulin levels, which relate directly to weight gain and heart risk factors. 2) Sulfates contained in foods are similarly identified for the first time by the authors. 3) Many supplements are identified and assessed with extensive bibliographies as they relate to weight control and heart disease. 4) This book is co-authored by a Cardiologist for the first time, and he incorporates many heart health-related issues and suggestions to form a major difference in the Heller's original book. This newest book by the Hellers takes the ball and runs way beyond their earlier publications. There have been many developments since 1993 when they published their original book, and they identify and extensively discuss these updates. I really did not find this to be a rehash at all, but an update.

An Answer to Prayer,
By Miriam V. at Mirinmel@aol.com (Melbourne, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Heart Program: Break Your Carbo-Insulin Connection to Heart Disease (Hardcover)
This book was an answer to prayer for me. I think it is just excellent and very understandable for the average person. However, I suggest you read it and reread it several times before trying the program. There are many ideas in the book that are hard to remember the first time through. If you don't fully understand it, you might make some mistakes and then tend to think it doesn't work. For instance, I missed the part about not using tuna in broth and it really set off cravings. I was tempted to blame the diet. When I discontinued the tuna, it was the difference of day and night. It is a book where you find some new tidbit every time you reread it. It is working well for me and I have lost 12 pounds in two weeks. I am looking to find or form a support group here in town for more ideas and recipies.

Very helpful for my overweight and Heart-related problems,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Heart Program: Break Your Carbo-Insulin Connection to Heart Disease (Hardcover)
Has helped me lose almost 50 pounds with still being able to eat almost all of my favorite foods. Authors are very open and honest about all diet-related subjects and "tell it like it is". This program does work in weight loss, and I look forward to it's long term benefits for the heart.

Finally, a way of life I can live with--no more dieting!,
By Bev Ferguson (Selah, Washington) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Heart Program: Break Your Carbo-Insulin Connection to Heart Disease (Hardcover)
For years I've been looking for the perfect diet--a diet that would allow me to lose weight and be healthy. I tried a number of diets only to find myself falling off the wagon here and there and then finally giving up. After reading this book (and I've read it at least twice by now) I am convinced that this is the perfect way of life for me. The Hellers and Mr. Vagnini have done their homework and provided us with a foolproof means of getting the weight off and preventing heart disease. I recommend it for everyone but especially for women who like me (in their early 50s) are entering those years when we are most prone to heart disease and diabetes. IT'S A MUST READ!!

By A Customer
This review is from: The Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Heart Program: Break Your Carbo-Insulin Connection to Heart Disease (Hardcover)
I finally found it - a program I could live with and it saved my life.My blood pressure went from 200/110 to normal for the first time in years. My cholesterol dropped from more than 280 to below normal and my triglyerides dropped to 1/3 of what they were! My doctor is amazed.I am 60 pounds thinner and I eat the foods I love.I have given this book to my friends and family and they are converts now too.I always knew it wasn't my fault and I thank God and the Hellers for giving me back my life.

Very informative,
This review is from: The Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Heart Program: Break Your Carbo-Insulin Connection to Heart Disease (Hardcover)
I found this book to be an eye opener as to what gets the insulin up. My family has a history of Diabeities, so it's a looming concern for me. And talk about a surprise, when here I thought I was eatting good foods like Tuna, to find out that if it says Broth for the ingredients and not water to beware. It made my shopping trip a little longer, but more aware of how little our foods are regulated. A good book to have around even if your not interested in losing weight, but just want to eat healthy.

Head of Best of class,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Heart Program: Break Your Carbo-Insulin Connection to Heart Disease (Hardcover)
This is an outstanding book and the best of the current crop of books which expand on the 1998 findings of the American Heart Association which state that insulin is statistically a more significant predictor of heart attack risk than cholesterol, HDL/LDL ratios, blood pressure, obesity, or triglycerides.Other fine books in this genre are The Anti-Aging Zone by Barry Sears (the fellow who holds the patent for turning AZT into powder form {ingestable by capsule rather than solely by injection}) and The Schwarzbein Principle, as well as Protein Power (which has been substantially discredited because of critical ketosis risks faced by its adherents). In a nutshell, the thesis of this book is that a huge surge of peer-reviewed research now shows that elevated insulin levels are the fundamental root cause of a large percentage of coronary disease in the United States.Manage your insulin levels (cut down on the pastas and flours!!) and you will bring down your blood pressure, your cholesterol, etc. The book contains an extensive bibliography chock full of citations from the most respected medical publications in the world: Lancet, JAMA, Archives of Internal Medicine, etc.Authored by esteemed New York heart surgeon Frederic Vagnini, this book is eminently readable, almost conversational in tone. His command of the current medical literature is so strong that he is able to bring all of us the information we require to make substantially informed on these life or death issues.

A New Life!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Heart Program: Break Your Carbo-Insulin Connection to Heart Disease (Hardcover)
Although this book can be a little heavy with the medical jargon, the information provided has completely changed the lives of my mother and myself. In 6 months, our energy levels are up and our blood fat levels are down, along with all of the excess weight! All cholesterol reducing medications, except niacin have been discontinued. I have also tried to influence the lives of 2 of my children, who are carbhydrate addicted. They are teens and hopefully will not have to go through the years of poor physical health that I did. It is a wonderful feeling to enjoy each day, not driven by the cravings and released from the worry of premature heart disease! Thank you for our new lease on life!
