Product Description

The new Carbon ExpressX-Force 400 is a high performance, compact crossbow specifically designed for tight spaces. This is also a very agile bow for hunters with physical limitations or smaller framed individuals with no compromise in power or accuracy. The X-Force 400 features a full size stock design with a 5" shorter arrow rail vs. standard crossbows. The 12" short, light draw makes it the perfect choice for youth and women also, but it still delivers speed in excess of 310 fps. The result is an extremely light, compact bow that is easily held for long periods of time and easy to maneuver in tight spaces. The X-Force 400 includes a quick detach 3 arrow quiver, 4x32 deluxe scope, rope cocker and 3 Carbon Expressexclusive Surge 20" crossbolts. The new Carbon ExpressX-Force 400 is the ultimate choice for hunters who need power and performance in a compact bow, but don’t want to sacrifice full size performance.

Just go mine from Amazon. Nice packaging, fast delivery, excellent product. Unpacking and assembly was easy. The instructions are totally adequate. The quality of the stock, barrel, bows and 4X32 scope are excellent. I really like the Mossy Creek camo finish. It's sort of rubberized feeling and supposed to help quite the xbow. This is a really nice light weight crossbow as advertised. It has an adjustable front grip with a picatinny rail. Think I'll add a foldable grip to give it some versitillity.
I did alot of research for my new crossbow choice. Being 5'7" and 140lbs I knew after visiting Cabelas and doing some reading on the Internet that I wanted a shorter, lighter than average crossbow without a huge loss of power. I also wanted something that I could draw with a rope or add a crank later if need be. The Barnetts sound real good with their 300+ Fps arrow speeds. But when I got most of them down off the wall and in my hands they were big and heavy - for me. So I narrowed my choices down to the Barnett Wildcat C5 (which the folks at Cabellas say is one of the least trouble or returned model) or the Carbon Express X-Force 400 (which is new for 2011). The Wildcat is nice and lighter than average. I really liked it's built in cranking system the best. The rest of the Barnetts, Ten Points, Excalibars and Parkers were beautiful, and big. When I picked up the X-Force 400 I knew I'd found the right fit for me. This thing felt great!
So after assembling mine I headed out to the back yard for some sighting in and target practice. The included rope cocking device works just fine and I was able to cock the 175lb draw xbow with minimal effort. There are three Carbon Express 20" Surge carbon bolts included with this package. First impressions are that they're pretty nice bolts.

The Good:
I wrestled and wrestled with which crossbow to buy. I am primarily a compound hunter but decided to try crossbows for a change. I looked at everything and found Carbon Express to be the best because of the size. So many of the crossbows on the market are enormous and just awful when using, especially in a tree. I visited two local hunting stores and neither carried Carbon Express but the salespeople at each store said CE made a great crossbow but they were very expensive. The xforce 400 was actually one of the cheapest I was evaluating. So, with all factors considered and size being the most important I decided on this one.
I was extremely happy when it arrived, very quick to assemble. I'm a bigger guy, 6' 200lbs and it fits perfectly. It shoots great. The bolt shoots hard and is a frozen rope! Side note, it is so much easier than a compound if that is what you are looking for. I don't necessarily condone this but had to say it : )

The Bad:
The scope that came with the package was a pretty crappy, made in China scope. After less than 10 shots the crosshairs inside became off kilter and just kept shifting more and more the the left. No good. Done. Have not shot since then.
The paint on the rail came off pretty quickly after 2 or 3 shots but that is extremely minimal and not a big deal.

So, I've emailed CE to see if they will replace the scope. Would change my 4 stars to 5 if they fix my problem. I will update this review with the results of that.

I highly recommend this bow for the price, size and quality. I would probably plan on buying a third party scope if you buy this bow but I'm not sure I'd say that if the original scope had stayed together. Again, I'll see how CE handles the customer service piece.

Having had no experience with any other x-bows, I don't have anything to compare this to. However, I have 22yrs of total archery experience under my belt, so with that in mind this is my review:

Summary review:

PLUS: decent value, good build quality, ease of use and set up, light, compact (perfect for a pop-up ground blind!) and very accurate w/ included bolts

MINUS: loud, comparably slow (for a x-bow,) craptastic included scope. Sloppy (and noisy) trigger.

Just for info, I spent about 6 hours over 2 days running the bow through it's initial paces. All in all, I'm fairly happy with it.

Detailed review:

Out of the box, it seems to be a good quality product. It went together in about 10 minutes using the supplied instructions, which were very clear and concise. The bow is short, lightweight, and manueverable. The scope is no-name J-U-N-K with a capital CHINA. Oh, well. Before I ever shot it, I bought a tru-glo (yeah, I know it's also Chinese, but what're you going to do?) that seems to be much better clarity and quality.

The 3 CE 20" surge bolts that came with it looked sturdy, and as other reviewers have noted, have a pretty good online reputation for value and accuracy. (more on that in a minute.)

I first sighted the xbow in using the supplied Carbon Express Surge bolts and field tips (I think they're 100gr, but not sure.) Was shooting TIGHT groups (less than 1") at 25yds. The main drawback I noticed was very loud shot report, and it's not as if this thing is shooting 400fps- it's more like 310, which is on the low end of modern cross bows. I think a deer could very well jump this setups string at distance. Plan your shot selection accordingly.
