A solid album, April 17, 2009

I've listened through it a few times and decided that overall it's a worthy release. There are of course a few things I didn't like about it, but let's talk about the good first.
Kinto Sol has really improved their writing ability, the songs are overall more cohesive and the writing makes more sense regarding what the song is about. The CD has a strong political tone which I'm not too crazy about, but even so I've found tracks that I like. "T.I.E.R.R.A." is by far the sickest song on the album, download that track right now. El Chivo and Skribe rap about different states of Mexico highlighting what they're known for. The beat is dope and the song is hard. I love it.
There's other good ones too, like "La Toalla" which is about not giving up and throwing in the towel, the hook is cool because they got a girl to sing a bit. They should do more of that. "Carcel De Sueños", the title track, is really nice and sums up what the CD is about. Raza comes to this country looking for opportunity but only to realize that it's a type of trap with it's own set of problems. It's kind of like a modern day "Jaula de Oro" by Los Tigres Del Norte. We have to prosper and pave the way so it's easier for the next one coming over. Listening to it brings our struggle to light.
At the end of the day, this is an entertainment piece and most of the songs are a bit on the darker side. There are other good songs but they're slightly above average. "Voy a Sacudirme" is cool but Skribe talks for like 20 seconds in the beginning. I know they're trying to speak out and cause change but they need to keep in mind that we're going to listen to this over and over again. By putting a message in front of the song it can get annoying really quickly when we just want to listen to the music. Either put it at the end of the track so we can skip it, or better yet, just put all of it on skits.
Kinto Sol is definitely taking a more political stance which is cool but I just miss the old days of "No Muerdas La Mano" and "Como Secundaria". I wish we could get more regular tracks like that. Even "Corazon Muerto" seems to have been added as an obligatory 'single' track for the radio. Their songs were hinting at this angle for a while now, namely on El Chivo's "Cicatrices" album with "Si Se Puede", I just hope that with "Carcel De Sueños" Kinto Sol has gotten this off their chest and explore other topics.
Still, it's a good release. Give it a listen and download the good songs.
