The best badge reel I've ever owned August 29, 2008

My ID card reel is solid and well built. It has a little larger diameter than most cheap reels to accommodate the long tether (nice!), but the matte black front makes up for it -- very discrete. It does have a non-metallic tether that will wear out eventually, after months or years of normal use. Metallic tethers are heavier, thicker, less manipulatable, usually shorter, and often have trouble retracting into the reel fully. They often kink. For the price, you could buy two of these and have a backup when the first eventually wears out. The seller took almost 5 days to ship an "in stock" item. I could have used it sooner.

I had this reel for about a month. During that time, the string in the reel wheel would always jam. After about a month, it jammed up so badly that it no longer reeled back into the wheel. When I tried to fix it, the string just straight up broke. I will never buy this product again. You better off getting a cheaper wheel from your local hardware store or section. I went to Walmart and got one with a chain, instead of string, and it cost $4 instead of the $6 or so this piece of junk cost from this seller.

i guess i didn't realize that this device doesn't have the kind of clip you can open and close (like on ID badges), instead it has that tight metal clip (shown in image) which i find hard to put on my uniform or belt. besides that the length of the reel is good, and the black circle face is perfect to personalize!
