1.0 out of 5 stars I gave it 1 star for holding-up-table ability.
I couldn't figure it out, so I use it to prop up my table. It works great.

5.0 out of 5 stars ThinModem w/ Targus (Think Outside?) Keyboard, November 21, 2000

I also have a Visor Deluxe which I have used with a Targus Stowaway Keyboard. The modem connection while seated on the Stowaway Keyboard allowed me to review emails and respond to them without disconnecting either the modem or the keyboard. This combination relieved me of the burden of a laptop while traveling. Unload the prepackaged software (the email program is only a demo and requires a fee for use) and use the 500K storage for something else, which is a plus. Eudora Internet Suite is free. I received an email from technical support that the upgrade to V.90 will include fax support (the current version does not permit faxing through the ThinModem). The battery meter dips during use but restores, for the most part, after turning it off. ThinModem comes with a male telephone jack (about 36 inches) which works well in airport telephones that offer a female connection. For about $5, get the female jack (about 4 inches)which works better with connections will working at a desk. One negative is the current lack of a gadget to connect to a cell phone to turn the Visor into a wireless, but that may come, I hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thincom Modem Put My Visor Online, September 30, 2000
By
This review is from: CardAccess Wristband Thinmodem Springboard Module (Office Product)
The Thincom modem instantly converted my Visor from a PIM to a real computer. I can dial-up any ISP and cruise the Web just like I can with my laptop or with my "getting bigger by the day" desktop computer. It doesn't require proprietary services or costly access fees to check e-mail. I'm using the services I already have.

Thanks to its clever design, the Thincom modem seats flush with my Visor, has a petite power appetite, and weighs not much more than the Springboard back cover protector that I removed to insert the modem. I couldn't even detect that my Visor had a modem installed unless I turned it over, revealing the Card Access label.

Many people don't realize that there's more than 500k of Flash memory onboard the modem that's now accessable via the Thinmodem 1.4 update. It's a nice bonus to an already great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT...PERFECT FIT FOR VISOR!, September 16, 2000
This review is from: CardAccess Wristband Thinmodem Springboard Module (Office Product)
I bought this for my visor and it is a perfect fit. (The one made by handspring didnt look like you could leave it in the case while the modem was in.) The modem did come with it's own programs but I am an aol user and never set up any of them. I immediately loaded the aol program and was on aol in 3 minutes...it worked amzingly! That program allows mail, IM's, buddy list functions... It is quite good and free to aol members. This modem worked excellently with it. The cord that comes with it that plugs in to the phone jack is a good length....not long enough to get twisted and knotted but long enough so you dont have to be sitting on top of the jack. The modem was a perfect fit and can stay in when not in use. It supposedly uses "minimal" battery if left in. Visor doesn't have a rechargable battery so that may be a consideration for you...but this is a perfect little modem in the right circumstance! A+

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Work, August 14, 2000
This review is from: CardAccess Wristband Thinmodem Springboard Module (Office Product)
The people who made this were thinking. It's got a better user interface than the handspring modem, it's smaller, lighter weight, doesn't use it's own batteries, upgradable, and it works just as well. I'd definately reccommed it, and the stowaway keyboard for travelers. Plus you can get free internet access from nearly anywhere in the nation...just don't install the program they give you on your desktop or you'll regret it. Happy visor surfing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thinline modem works fine, August 30, 2000

I have a Handspring VISOR Delux and just got my thincom modem. It worked just fine with my AOL for Palm software and did work with thier included applications. Only shortfall, the included apps are ALL demos and you get about 10 to 15 days to demo. Also, they are slightly confusing to work with since they require odd usernames to work even in demo mode.

But if you have mail software in your PDA or the AOl software it works like a charm.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product, build quality so-so, November 2, 2000

The Wristband Thinmodem is an excellent product. Out of the box, it worked great and connected me to the Internet withing minutes.

The cool thing about it is that it can be upgraded to V.90 later and it comes with bundled demos of browser software, terminal emulation software and email so that you can use it right out of the box.

The latest code update (V1.4) downloadable from the CardAccess website now comes with a FileMover application which gives the users the option to remove the bundled demo apps and store their own programs on it (up to 500K worth).

Power consumption for the Thinmodem is excellent - although the battery meter dropped when it is in use, it went up again when I wasn't. It does eat up your Visor's battery power but not much.

The only thing I found lacking about the Thinmodem is the build quality - out of the box, the Thinmodem gave me a few minutes of worry when I heard something clicking around loose inside. However, plugging it in, it worked just fine.

Also, looking at the bottom near the connector, I found that the two parts of the Springboard plastic casing was not properly glued together.

One star taken away for the slight hiccup in quality control.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thincom modem, August 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: CardAccess Wristband Thinmodem Springboard Module (Office Product)
This modem is very easy to setup and to use. Within minutes, I was able to establish a connection to my server at work and with my Internet provider. It is much more convenient to download my email with my Visor than with my laptop. Potential buyers should be aware that the Multimail software (the email client)included with the modem is a trial version; you must purchase the software at the Actual Software home page. Other than this (which is not stated anywhere) the modem is well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars CardAccess Modem, January 5, 2001

This is the BEST modem for the Visor.

With this and my Stowaway keyboard, I now have a fully compact, internet ready computer with me at all times.

There are only 2 problems with it.

1. Quality Control - A part of the plastic housing was chipped on my modem. It did not degrade my performance any, and you can't really tell unless you look closely, but it still should not have been sold like that.

2. The cord - The cord has a dongle-type adapter at one end, and a male RJ-11 plug at the other. I reccommend you purchase another cable from CardAccess that allows you to use any length phone cord.

All in all, you can not go wrong with this modem, it is the best addition to your visor!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Springboard Modem, August 17, 2000

I just got the Thincom Springboard Modem today and it works great! Just plug it in, and there is a 'wizard' type application that opens up guiding you through the steps to get online. The program multimail that is included on the module crashes my Visor DLX however, so I'm using Handmail instead. also, proxiweb is much better than the included web browser. but the hardware on the unit is unbeatable, not to mention that it's half as large as the Handspring Modem. The included cable is only about 6', not too big a deal, but I would have liked to use my wind-up modem cord card. Also, the modem does not sport a standard RJ11 phone jack on the top, instead it is a small edge connector type deal (I'm told it's not proprietary however, and is used with many PCMCIA modems). Overall, a very good buy :)

Perfect companion for the Visor. Pop it in and it walks you through the setup. I had absolutly no problems with it. I now only carry my Visor with me when I travel and check email from my visor. I agree to ditch the demo email program that comes bundled for Eudoro mail. Would recommend, no question.
