Best book of the series!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Cardcaptor Sakura - 100% Authentic Manga Volume 5 (Cardcaptor Sakura Authentic Manga) (Paperback)
The Cardcaptor Sakura series is a good series, one of my favorites. This book is like the sugar in cake, or strawberries in strawberry shortcake. Being the fifth of the sixth in the series, readers must be saying: Finnally! Almost done! but this book makes you wish that the series was never ending. The reader can feel that the author was having fun making the book. It's a ripe banana!

SLEEPING BEAUTY REVERSED,
By Sesho "www.sesho.libsyn.com" (Pasadena, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cardcaptor Sakura - 100% Authentic Manga Volume 5 (Cardcaptor Sakura Authentic Manga) (Paperback)
A colleague of Sakura's dad has loaned him the use of his summer home free of charge and so the family is headed out for a relaxing getaway. Yukita, Sakura's crush, is also along for the trip. And you know Kero-chan isn't gonna miss out on this either. The crux of the action hinges on a friendship Sakura begins with an old man who lives in a luxurious White Housesque mansion near the summer house. Later on, Sakura and her Clow Card gathering rival Li-Kun are cast opposite each other in the school play rendition of "Sleeping Beauty". But in a typical Clamp way of gender reversal, such as most of the men in their titles being into gardening and cooking, Li is cast as the Beauty and Sakura as the Prince! But the performance might be ruined by the appearance of a Clow Card. Also, we learn a bit more about the mysterious substitute teacher Mizuki and why she has such a special interest in Sakura.
Cardcaptor Sakura does a good job of milking a really simple card collecting plot for everything it's worth. The slightly ambiguous love interests and gender role reversals give it an element of weirdness that is very attractive to a jaded reader. The fact that you can't really figure out what these relationships really mean give it a real air of mystery. For example, what does Toya really want from Yukito? Are they gay or is it just a red herring put out there by Clamp? The art, while lacking a lot of detail in the backgrounds, is really beautiful. Clamp only seems interested in what is happening front and center, not behind the character's backs. Good book.

35 more Cards to Capture in 1 Volume? Doubt it...,
By Carolyn "Dedicated Yaoi Fan." (NSW, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cardcaptor Sakura - 100% Authentic Manga Volume 5 (Cardcaptor Sakura Authentic Manga) (Paperback)
In this volume of Cardcaptor Sakura, Sakura meets an old man whose lost his Grand daughter on her holiday with her father, Toya and Yukito and spends some time with him. Next is the school play where Sakura is playing the Prince to Li's the Princess in their schools version of Sleeping Beauty in the talent show.
Sakura only captures 2 cards, Light and Dark. And they mostly give themselves up anyway. This volume was a tad disappointing considering it's suppose to be about capturing cards. Li is supposed to be her rival and he hasn't caught any! And where is Meilin? She hasn't even arrived, and I begin to doubt she ever will. Most of this volume was dedicated to "who is Yue" and yeh. Knowing who he really is, isn't that much of exictment for me. This volume was a tad disappointing, but still overall a must get. |
