5.0 out of 5 stars An EXCELENT manga!!!, February 14, 2003

Ok, so I know the book looks so much thinner and smaller in comparison to the others, but Book % is my favorire- mostly because of the school play(tee hee!). As usual, CLAMP has done a superior job on the artwork, and there is a lot of humor.
Also, there is a nice sweet episode without card-collecting where Sakura meets a nice old man on a family vacation.
A wonderful book to add to your collection, and just as good for starters if you're new to manga!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Out!, December 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Cardcaptor Sakura, Number 5 (Paperback)
Well, CLAMP does it again. Although the translations aren't close to correct, and the names are shortened whenever possible (Yuki, Toya) its better than Cardcaptors (Julian, Tori) and there is another factor: Japanese, going up and down, certainly uses vertical speech balloons, while English goes more horizontal. So, if you are not a perfactionist, this is perfect. MUCH cheaper than the Kodashna ones, these also have 3 mangas in one (I think).
In this one, Light and Dark are caught, along with a no card episode which is CCS's strong point: tons of side dramas (vs. CC's point-less plot). So get this, as fast as you can *hint, hint mom!* Toyko Pop, the publishers (or is it editors) are producing these at a slower rate, so you'll have to wait a bit for the next one, but it's worth it! CCS is an AWSOME anime, that will keep you interested throughout the entire series, and screaming for a 4th season (ends now with 3 seasons and 2 movies). I know for one that I haven't watched TV for 11 years until I came across this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paper Quality & Width of Book., January 10, 2002

I read a couple of reviews which complained about this volume being shorter, actually the change is the paper used to print the pages on. If you check your books, there's still about 180 pgs, however T-Pop is now using a lighter weight paper. This makes the book thinner, but also this new paper isn't as stiff & you won't have the problems with pages falling out as in past T-Pop releases. Also, according to an artist friend of mine, it actually is a better quality paper in general.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, but could be Better, December 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Cardcaptor Sakura, Number 5 (Paperback)
Ok now I'm a big fan of CLAMP and of course Cardcaptor Sakura. I was very surprised to see the book published this early. Anyway just like all the other books the art and the story is better, but there is one small problem. This book compared to the other four in the series is quite thin... It was almost like they had taken things out, like where in world did Sakura capture the Wood Card? It might just be me and my memory but I don't remember her capturing it yet . . . oh well. The stories in here were very good and the school play is hillirous! Nothing should really stop you from buying this book...

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll read them all eventually..., July 3, 2004

I've sort of been reading this series backwards, starting with the Master of the Clow books and moving on to the original series. In spite of that, they're still fun to read, and I'm amused by the way that Li acted early on in the series versus the way he acts later. In this book, Sakura and her class do a production of Sleeping Beauty in which the parts were chosen at random - really, really at random. As usual, something happens that puts those around her in danger, so Sakura must save everyone from the power of a Clow card. The characters are all a lot of fun, and the art is gorgeous. One day, I will finally have read all the Cardcaptor books. I'm getting there...

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for the next one, March 11, 2002
By
This review is from: Cardcaptor Sakura, Number 5 (Paperback)
This book continues the MANGA version (no Meilin, only 25 cards, etc) of CCS, which is just as funny and entertaining as the first one.

"Episode" 1: Sakura is going on vacation in a borrowed summer house! But who is the mysterious old man who stays in the house next door? And who is his hidden partner?

"Episode" 2: Sakura's class is going to do a play in the upcoming talent show! But their hilarious production of "Sleeping Beauty" is cut short by the appearance of the strongest card (actually, one of the two strongest) of the clow! Will Sakura be able to break the spell of this card by discovering her own inner power? And will Kero-chan's exsistance be revealed?

"Episode" 3- part 1: AARRGH! Cliffhanger! Sakura, Syaoran, and Tomoyo go with Yukito to the cake shop, where Tomoyo discovers Syaoran's hidden feelings! But everything is cut short by the appearance of Firey, the strongest and wildest of the 4 elements, when it encircles them on the road!

I'd say get this as soon as you can, then wait patiently for the next! And for everyone who says that this one is a ripp-off, the paper is like 50% thinner and 100% better quality! And for everyone who says that the book itself [stinks], do you want us to go and learn Japanese just cause of a couple of nicknames (to save space), a couple of ...jokes, and a couple of mis-translations? This book is an EXCELLENT deal!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, yet short., December 22, 2001
By
Megriel (CA, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cardcaptor Sakura, Number 5 (Paperback)
This is one of the better Cardcaptor Sakura books. There is one main set back with CCS 5 that the others do not have. The lenght of this book is by half shorter then the others. Now don't get me wrong, this is one of the funnier CCS books, but for the price I feel slightly over priced.

4.0 out of 5 stars I like!, July 3, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Cardcaptor Sakura, Number 5 (Paperback)
I like these books a lot, but only because I can put up with the huge amount of cuteness. There is a complicated relationship-web doing on right now that can make the story more interesting, or just get on your nerves. I found this perticular book really funny and I wanted to get the 6th book right away afterwards. Just one question---how dis Sakura get her hair like that?! (talk about weird character designs!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Book Pages, June 30, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Cardcaptor Sakura, Number 5 (Paperback)
I really liked this book, even though the pages are thinner then most are. I kind of find in annoying how they keep changing the layout of the books, but I thought that the thinner pages was a good idea. You no longer have to turn heavy pages that can fall out easier after long time use. One thing I didn't like about it though was how in my copy the details were sometimes harder to see.

In the first chapter the Kinomoto family goes on a vaction to a summer house they are renting out. Sakura gets a new friend who is an older man. In the second chapter Sakura's class is putting on a play, but is all ruined when everything goes black from a card? The third chapter is the beginning of the firey card.
