5.0 out of 5 stars We're so glad to have this
We were familiar with Elizabethan collars from past use. The first one we got from the vet was fairly transparent. It took our dog awhile to get used to it, then he was fine. But he did crack the collar from bumping into things when excited, so we taped it up. It became so taped up that we could no longer wash it, so we got another one from the vet. However, they had...

3.0 out of 5 stars E-Collar wasn't big enough and my dog broke it.
Maybe I didn't measure right but I did the measurement and was recommended the medium. When I put it on it would slide down on the neck so her nose would jut out. Somehow she managed to crack and break it. Didn't last long, but my dog really didn't like it. Maybe they need to be more contained while wearing it.

However, they had switched to a different type (perhaps sturdier?), and it wasn't transparent. Our dog was extremely distressed to have no peripheral vision, so we went back to the taped up E-collar.

Recently I began looking again and found this one, the only transparent collar I encountered in my internet search. We are very happy with it. We take it off when our dog goes outside (he leaves his leg alone when outside), which reduces the chances of cracking it. In addition, this collar doesn't stick out as far, so our dog has an easier time drinking with it on. We are really glad to have found this item.

I had originally assumed that I would need the medium, as our dog is medium-sized. After reading the measurement info, I ordered the large. I noticed that the measurement information that came with the collar was different than the information given in the listing. I think the listing said that the large would fit up to a 20" neck (or maybe it was 18), but the collar itself says it only fits to 15 3/4". So if your dog's neck is larger than that, I guess you should get the Xlarge.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, June 22, 2009
I concur with the previous review. My puppy broke this collar within 2 days. This is not a sturdy collar and other brands were able to fair just fine with the puppy after this one broke.

I bought this for my cat (a proud 13 pounder) who sustained an injury on his shoulder blade and kept licking the spot to an open wound. He started freaking out the second we put the collar on him and was trying to get it off. He couldn't eat or drink with it on because it is so big and getting it on and off is certainly not easy...one of the plastic snaps broke off the first time we put it on. We also tried to put it on the other way, where it would sit like a little coat...that didn't work out well at all. He managed to get up on the couch, but when we tried to jump off he couldn't get his legs in landing position because the collar was in the way and the poor thing landed on his face...wasn't happy at all.

We ended up cutting out a "custom" collar from a gift box and he is now a happy cat. He can eat, drink, run around, jump around, clean his tail but he still can't get to his wound so it can now heal in peace.

Please try to be more innovative before buying this for your cat. I'm sure it's a good product if you keep the cat in a cage and make sure you add water to all the meals (remember, they can't drink with the collar on), but for a cat that's still free to roam around the house, I would certainly not recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing piece of crap, April 25, 2009
We bought one of these yesterday [...] and brought it home to put on our cat that had stitches he insisted on licking. Once on, the bottom snap broke and rendered this expensive piece of plastic useless.

I highly DO NOT recommend this item. You are better off buying a piece of animal clothing that will cover the would or infection or whatever.

[...]

In the end, DO NOT BUY THIS. It broke within 5 minutes of its first and only use.

We were extremely disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Short term use, April 18, 2008
Not really impressed with this. I have a large dog and she is not very graceful. Within a couple of days of her running into things it cracked down the whole side. So I used clear tape to patch it back up. Within another couple of days it cracked down the other side. One last patch there, and then the snaps that hold the cone together broke off. Waste of money and time in my opinion.

they sent a different e-collar with same lining that is at neck on the outer ring. this is problematic, given that when it gets dirty (poop, etc) it is impossible to clean the edge. not acceptable to send a different brand/item than pictured!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cardinal E-Collar, August 31, 2011

My dog had allergies since she was little and I have always had to put a collar on her of some sort. She is a bichon frise and I show her so when I found this collar I was very happy. It has padding around the neck so her hair doesn't break and the cone itself is long enough to do the job but not so long as to bump into things. she does not mind wearing it at all.

It's nice to know I can get this product at Amazon.
