Very easy to install.

The guardian does involve installation using a screw driver and possible a drill into door frame but it is awesome in peace of mind and security.

We can now rest comfortably knowing she will not wander outside or that she will open the front door in the middle of the night.

well designed product. this lock can only be locked from inside your home, and cannot be unlocked from outside. i have one on each exterior door (12 doors) so I do trust them to work. you are provided with 2 2" screws and a few smaller screws for installation. My sugesstion is to make sure you drive the screws into the stud adjacent to your door frame...the door frame alone will not be strong enough to stop a forced intrusion (i know this from experience). so if you need to purchase longer screws, I suggest you do so.

also, depending on how your door is set, you may be required to chisel some of the door casing (the door molding around your door) to properly install the door guardian. you want the rubber pad of the door guardian to have contact with the door when it is in the locked position. a few of my doors were recessed so there was about 4 to 5 cm of space between the rubber pad and the door. to alleviate this problem, I used chisels on the door casing to carve out enough space that would allow the door guardian to make full contact with the door (while in locked position). if you encounter this problem and require chisels, i highly recommend the following set for the cleanest installation:

Stanley 16-971 6-Piece FatMax Short Blade Chisel Set (can be purchased from amazon).

good luck keeping the bad guys out!

First off, this is a great product. We use it for a combination of security and child safety. I liked the first one so much, I bought another. No regrets.

That said, there is one beef I have with this product: They include the most awful screws I've ever used in any product in my life. They strip incredibly easily.

Follow my advice:
1. Buy this thing.
2. While waiting for it to arrive, buy the following screws from the local hardware store - look for "wood screws" and make sure you get the kind where the head is flat (like an upside down volcano):
- #7 3/4" (you'll need 1 of these)
- #8 3" (you'll need 2 of these)

Give yourself about 15 minutes to do the install correctly, and make sure you don't put in all 3 screws before you confirm that the spacing is correct (try locking the door before you put all the screws in).

This is my 2nd time buying this particular lock for my house. Previously my husband and I purchased two for our condo and loved them. They lock securely and our children aren't able to unlock them. We liked them soo much we are buying three more for our new house. They are the best locks we have found!!!

This is a wonderful latch for any type of door, whether it be a main door leading outside, a regular room door, a basement door, etc. It is extremely strong and there is no way that you can open the door if this latch is placed on it. It also has a specific way of being locked (it snaps) so it's really good if you want to keep a door closed to avoid getting cold wind or a draft in.

A great product!

I ordered these locks when my daughter and her family (including a 2-year-old) moved home. My grandson may only be 2, but he's the size of a 4 or 5 year old and is strong as an ox. He likes to try to sneak outside whenever he can so we needed a secure lock to protect him. He has broken three child-safety gates and can carry a heavy oak chair from one end of the house to the other without setting it down...but he can NOT get past this lock!
The locks are very strong, and they are a simple design so you hardly notice them. We installed it about head-level, so he couldn't reach it, then all it takes is a quick flip to lock the door, and we know our grandson is safe.
I absolutely and very highly recommend them to anyone who has little ones or is living alone and wants better security than a door lock normally provides. They are definitely worth every penny and then some!

This product is designed to work best on doors where the casing is flush with the door surface, not too common. If you have a casing around the door you will not be able to get the door guardian installed with the strike touching your door unless you chisel out a large portion of your door casement. Cutting into you casement might not be a problem if you want this for intrusion protection and you own your home.

This product is close to being perfect for renters because the only holes are a few screw holes in the door frame that are covered by the door. Remove it when you leave and the landlord will never know. Unless you have the casing problem.

Thankfully I only need this to prevent my toddler from escaping the house. So I was able to install it flush with the casing which leaves a gap between the door and the strike. This will allow you to open the door 1/2" before it hits the strike but then you are stopped. Not great for preventing forced entry but more than enough to prevent child exit.

The unit feels solid and well made, i expect it to last. Installation was a breeze minus the casement issue.

Update: I've added a product image to show what this looks like on my door with a 3/4" casing.

This is an effective add on to increase door access security. It is easy to install and well made. I have installed two of these door guards and am planning to add another to my front door.
