5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic and Cheap security
I am 6'4 and weigh over 275 and we installed 2 of these on a fiberglass front door to our home. My brother and i both tried with all of our might to get in but with no luck. it held secure.... Great, cheap security.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not made for outside sliding doors
The Amazon description fails to mention that this device only works on patio doors in which the sliding part is on the inside track, not one, like mine, in which the part that slides is on the outer track. After buying it and realizing it didn't work, I went to the manufacture's website and there it clearly states that it does not work on sliding doors on the outside. If...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not made for outside sliding doors, April 23, 2010

The Amazon description fails to mention that this device only works on patio doors in which the sliding part is on the inside track, not one, like mine, in which the part that slides is on the outer track. After buying it and realizing it didn't work, I went to the manufacture's website and there it clearly states that it does not work on sliding doors on the outside. If this had appeared in the Amazon description it would have saved me the hassle of having to return it.

The product itself looks good and the company was great about refunding my money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Guardian patio door bolts, June 4, 2009
This review is from: Cardinal Gates Patio Door Guardian, White (Baby Product)
I've just fitted 3 of these bolts to our patio doors. They required modification as the bracket designed to hold them on was far too wide for the style of doors I have. I needed to saw the excess bracket off & spray the raw exposed alloy white to match.
They work well as locks but it is very easy to lock yourself out as, unless you turn the bolt through 90 degrees, they self-latch shut.

3.0 out of 5 stars DRILLING REQUIRED!, May 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Despite the description stating that there is no drilling required, the first tool listed in the instructions as necessary to complete installation: a drill! And no question you will need it. Putting that aside, this is a well made lock and works once it is installed. Just be careful if you have a tall door; my wife cannot reach the mechanism without a step stool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected., April 24, 2008
This review is from: Cardinal Gates Patio Door Guardian, White (Baby Product)
This product turned out better than I expected. I have a daycare in my home and the kids no longer have a broom handle to run off with! I was pleasantly surprised that you can crack the door open a few inches while still keeping it locked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome for little escapees., June 20, 2008
This review is from: Cardinal Gates Patio Door Guardian, White (Baby Product)
Little Houdini-in-trainings will not be able to open that sliding glass door again. Keep your toddlers safe and inside the house even after they have mastered the regular lock. By having this lock way up high, there's no way they'll be able to unlock it themselves. Forget the broom handle in the lower track, this is the best.

I haven't actually installed this item yet. In the product description, it very specifically says that no drilling is required. That is untrue. I live in an apartment that we rent. I'm technically not supposed to make changes like that, so I was looking for something that would work well without damaging anything. This lock has to be drilled into the upper track and the sliding door frame. The instructions even contain a drilling template. This lock may work very well, it seems like it would. That is why I gave it 3 stars. Amazon needs to change their description. I probably wouldn't have bought this item if I had known that I would have to drill it into the door itself. If you can drill into your slider door, then this may be a great product. If you're in a rental like me, get permission to put it in before you buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Locks automatically when door closed, September 7, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cardinal Gates Patio Door Guardian, White (Baby Product)
This product automatically locks a sliding glass door when the door is closed. Works suprisingly smoothly when properly installed. Installs fairly easily, but may require spacers and adaptation for specific applications.

A fairly easy way to make a sliding door practically child/challenged adult proof. To open the door requires reaching up to the lock, pulling and holding down the barrel and at the same time sliding the door from the other side. Easy for an able bodied average size adult/teenager.

Seems to be fairly well made (if not bullet-proof) and should function for quite a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars WORKS GREAT!, August 5, 2008

We have been using these locks on our sliding patio doors for a few years now. We just love them. They allow for a 3-4 inch opening for air to come in and are very secure. It took my husband an hour or more to install but they are very easy to use and give us added security for our little toddlers.

1.0 out of 5 stars No drilling? Nonsense, April 6, 2011

The product description states that no drilling is required. Tools required? Power drill. Holes to drill? Three. I would have wanted to know that before I purchased this product.
