This set has an easy to look at chess board. The pieces are the official size and weight of proffesional chess tournaments. This would be the set of choice for chess fans everywhere.

The pieces are classic Staunton style, solid plastic, and regulation size. They will not break from being knocked onto the hard floor. (but you would be surprised at how they bounce around!) The board is your typical cardboard gameboard, but it's the right size and it gets the job done in good taste. It's kind of an advantage that this isn't a fancy set, because it forces you to concentrate more on the game. I bought this set to keep at work. If it gets stolen or busted up, I'm not out of much money. If you need a good quality chess set, but don't want to break the bank this is a good way to go. It's a great way to get into the world's best 2 person game.

The Master Chess set makes playing chess very pleasurable. The games pieces are brilliantly detailed, resemble actual tournament size and weight, and the set is very easy to carry around with it's thicker than average game box. Of course, it's not the best quality chess set in the market, but for the intermediate player, it's the best chess set available for it's price, hand's down.

This is a standard chess set. If you have children you may opt for this set. It is very durable.

This chess set and board is perfect for people who are just getting into chess or someone who doesn't need an expensive & fancy set. The pieces are big and durable. The board, though a little flimsy, does it's job. The board's colors can be a little hard on the eyes if you play a long time, but for the price, you can't beat it.

Their cheap but nobody would try stealing some plastic pieces.
They saved some money on the board but made the chessman a great value for $10.

The pieces are a good size and weight but the board is truly cheezy. Mine folds in 1/2 which is ok, but the cardboard is quite thin compared to the substantial peices and the paper grid is not even aligned properly. Overall though its a fair value for the $$.

Pavillions "Master Chess" set is easy on the eyes, unlike many other sets on the market. I love the look. The pieces are large and durable, which will fit nicely on any tournament size wood board. If your into chess play, this set is your best bet for the money.

Chess is chess, this is a standard chess board, that does not fold up at all. So its more durable than a normal board. The chess pieces are made of light plastic and the bottom of the pieces are felt so that way it will not scuff the board. Old fashioned fun.

This is probably the nicest of the cheap toy store sets out there. At least the squares are not red and black. The pieces are nice and durable plastic. You can get a true regulation chess set for the same or little more money. Unless you think you may be playing tournament chess though this set will do nicely. I am a tournament chess player and ordered ten of these sets for a local middle school chess club. They fit on the desk tops better than a regulation set and didn't set the school back too much. I would recommend this for someone who wants to give chess a try.
