Possibly my favorite game ever!!,

Okay, let's just get this out of the way first. This game lost a star because the directions are horribly written. If they would come out with a completely revised edition of the rules (and throw in a few more plastic boxes for the character pieces), it would be perfect. In the mean time, you can consult the official website for expanded instructions as well as downloadable templates to keep your characters and progress organized. That website has been an invaluable resource.
That being said, the hubby and I cannot get enough of this game!! Yes, it can be frustrating to learn, but once you get the hang of everything, you can play this game over and over and over and never have the same game twice. Also, different characters win in different ways, so your end goal can change from game to game! Sometimes the game lasts 15 minutes, sometimes 3 hours. You can control the length of the game by adjusting the board size to your taste. This is not really a "family game night" or a quick, easy game of Sorry! or Uno. It's a pretty complex game with a lot of nuances, but WELL worth the effort!!!

Hard, but good -- like playing an episode!,

Lost: The Board Game is a ton of fun, but be warned -- this game is definitely harder than your typical TV show board game. It's more of a role-playing game than a typical board game, so you'd better be ready to use your mind and imagination.
If you've played Magic The Gathering, or Settlers of Cataan, you'll have no problems with this game. If Monopoly or Risk are challenges to you, or you're looking for an easy game night, you're going to have a tough time with this one. The good news is, once you've got the rules down, it's a ton of fun to play -- the more people, the better, by the way. The game really captures the spirit of the show, and you'll definitely feel like you were lost on an island after playing this one.

I picked up this game because I love the Lost show. To make this review short, once you figure out the instructions the game is extremely entertaining. I don't know how some people couldn't figure it out. The game does NOT take 30 minutes to set up. The official website has expanding instructions that really make the game much easier to understand. Keep in mind, this is no light and thoughtless board game like Life or Clue.

I Absolutley LOVE the show Lost, because it plays with my mind and gives me something to think about, and that's exactly what the board game did aswell. It's almost as if you make your own episode, or your own season when you play the game! But as others have clearly noted, it isn't like a normal game, and the instructions could have been better written. If you are a person who really doesn't like putting time into things, then no, i suggest you don't get this game, but if your like me and really get into things that give you a challenge, then go for it, get the game, take a bit of time to solve it, then play it! Nonthless, it's a game exactly alluding to it's show! Once you get used to it, It's a GREAT GAME! Overall i rate it 4 out of 5, and congratualte the makers on their fine efforts!

Definitely NOT "just another tie-in",

Simply put, if you are looking for a simple trivia game that can be picked up and played on a whim, this is not the right game. This is a rich, complex, and mult-faceted strategy game for serious gamers. Unlike the so-called "games" based on shows like "Desperate Housewives" and "Sex and the City," this game could actually stand completely on it's own even without the show tie-in. One reviewer claimed that it was clearly a cheap attempt at selling "anything with Lost stamped on it," and bemoaned the fact that it wasn't a trivia game. That doesn't make any sense to me. This game has obviously had serious thought put into it, and it's something that takes time to learn and perfect, much UNLIKE a trivia game. Admittedly, the instructions are awful and seem incomplete, and if it weren't for the great resource that is www.losttheboardgame.com, where they have a newly written and much more comprehensible rule book (including a very helpful walkthrough), I would have given the game an overall score of 3 or 4. But taking the companion site into consideration, I think this game is excellent. Bottom line: You're more likely to enjoy this game if you're a fan of Risk, Magic: The Gathering, or even chess, than if you're even the most avid fan of the TV show.

I love 'Lost' and I feel like this game really gets the point of the show. It is a little bit dated since it's clear that it was made either during or right after season 2, but still, a very well executed board game adaptation of a great show.

An exciting strategy game that captures the mystery and frenetic urgency of Lost.,

Lost: The Game combines elements of Magic: the Gathering and chess. The box advises that it is for ages 13 and up.
When I first read the short rulebook, I could tell that the game was going to be a lot of fun. Each player starts the game controlling a character from Lost, and additional characters are brought into the game as it progresses. The point of the game is to make your starting character become the leader of ALL of the other characters in play. The dramatic power play between the characters on Lost has been translated into fun and strategic game play. While trying to become the leader of the survivers, your character has to explore the island and deal with local dilemmas that are found on Lost. At the beginning of the game, players build the island by placing an arrangement of tiles face down. When a location is first explored by characters, the tile is flipped over to reveal the location's text, i.e., the nature of the location. Like the characters on the show, you don't know what your characters are getting into until they are actually there. More chance comes into the game via the huge Fate Deck. Most locations allow you to draw from a deck of Fate cards in which you'll find (1) an Encounter (like the monster, Others, or Rousseau), (2) Equipment (like a gun or a compass), or (3) an Event to be held in your hand for later use. Because much of the game involves exploring the island, surviving scary dilemmas, and competing with your opponent's efforts to win your characters over to his/her side, the game captures the mystery and frenetic urgency of Lost. The game is based on the first two seasons of Lost, but I've read that expansions based on subsequent seasons are being planned.

With a show as popular as LOST, it's inevitable that cheaply produced merchandise will be released quickly to capitalize on the success of the show before it's too late. This game seems to completely fit that mold. This game is not fun. The instructions are vague and confusing. The game play is cumbersome and requires far too much patience. Don't waste your time on this game. The LOST puzzles were a lot more fun and rewarding than this game. Lost 1000 Piece Puzzle - #1 the Hatch

I would not recommend this game. We couldn't figure out how to play it or even how to start it. The direction are confusing and even state that if you don't understand something just make up your own rules. A waste of time and money. I gave 4 stars for it being durable only because it won't ever be used.

I recently had a group of friends over and we tried to play this game and could barely understand the directions!! It was terrible. We ended up quitting after an hour or two trying to understand what was going on reading beginner, advanced and cheat sheet directions. This would've been a much more effective computer game than board game.
