Book Description

May 1, 2008
The most complete volume on card making available

The Cardmaker's Workbook is the only book on cardmaking that a crafter will ever need, and is formatted in a sturdy volume that can kept on the desk and referred to again and again. The book is divided into chapters focusing on composition, color, theme, construction and inspiration. Instructions are clear but concise, making room for large pictures and multiple variations. It has the look of a designer's notebook with sketches and templates that show different card formats. Unlike other cardmaking books available that are occasion driven or aren't stylized, The Cardmaker's Workbook provides an inspiring and hands-on tool for paper addicts to use to expand their skills and stretch their imagination.

The designs cover many different styles, from detailed multi-layered beauties to simple cards that can be quickly made and given as a set of stationery.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Cardmakers, April 25, 2008
By
Ruthann (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Cardmaker's Workbook: The Complete Guide to Design, Color, and Construction Techniques for Beautiful Cards (Paperback)
This is a great book for all card makers. I'm not sure where to start... I like the way it discusses major color principles and theories, it helped me put together colors I wouldn't have thought to put together before. It also gives 'Designer Swatches' and then shows a couple of different cards created with those colors, which is great for new ideas. I love the "Designer Model" cards, they look so complicated, but Jenn breaks them down step by step so they will be easy to re-create. She also gives tips on how to simplify design for those 50 Holiday cards or party invitations you need to make. All in all there's something in here for card makers at all levels. Not only does it showcase some beautiful cards, there are also helpful reasons to send cards, "Sorry about your splinter" is definitely deserving of a card, and not one I would have thought about before...lol...

3.0 out of 5 stars Better cardmaking, November 19, 2008
This review is from: The Cardmaker's Workbook: The Complete Guide to Design, Color, and Construction Techniques for Beautiful Cards (Paperback)
This is a pretty book. Filled with lots of pictures, and instructions on how to make many of them. The instructions aren't as detailed as a newbie cardmaker might like, as some of the trim elements are not common, nor are the techniques to attach them. This book is not for beginners, as it shows some rather daunting card making that probably doesn't faze an experienced cardmaker. It is great, though, for design ideas. And if you are at all creative, these designs can be adapted to what you know how to do, not what you wish you could do, or could afford to do. Looks like the author has an unlimited budget to spend on card elements, paper, trims, etc.

This review is from: The Cardmaker's Workbook: The Complete Guide to Design, Color, and Construction Techniques for Beautiful Cards (Paperback)
This book is awesome. It covers almost every aspect of cardmaking and is easy to read and understand. The color pictures are great and they really give you a springboard to making your own cards and applying your own ideas. The price is great, especially for what you get!
