Editorial Reviews

Cardo and Friends is the new album by El Paso based singer/songwriter Richard Schwartz (Cardo). Produced by the legendary David Kershenbaum (Tracy Chapman, Joe Jackson, Cat Stevens, Tori Amos, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves OST, Last of the Mohicans OST), the albums 15 tracks are a mixture of rootsy bluegrass-style storytelling and straightforward rock textures. Cardo is the principal songwriter and lead vocalist, whose performance style ranges from passionate vocals to man-on-the-street storytelling. He draws influences from many places; His El Paso roots shining through with a varied mix of Rock, Country, Americana, and hints of latin beats. Recorded in Los Angeles, Cardo and Friends features performances from Mitch Perry (Edgar Winter, Graham Nash, Cher), John Payne (ASIA), Jorgen Carlsson (Govt Mule), Doug Pettibone (Lucinda Williams, Ray LaMontagne, Steve Earle) among others bringing some real pedigree to this unique and wonderful record.

Nice surprise on this rainy day. Love the lyrics, especially World Gone Wrong, and love Cardo's voice. I'm looking forward to listen again this weekend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice to be surprised by something new! November 30, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
It's refreshing to pick up an album once in a while that makes you think a bit after listening to it. Cardo and Friends is honest and from the heart in it's delivery, both from a musical, vocal, and lyrical standpoint. Standout tracks for me are Restless Spirit, Bridges, and Christmas Eve Alone. If you're a fan of Country, Alt-Country, Americana or Roots-Rock this is definitely an album to check out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Crafted Country Rock November 21, 2012
Format:Audio CD
I'm not the biggest fan of country music but this collection of songs is really strong - it's the storytelling aspect of the lyrics that really drew me in. But the music is no slouch either, a really interesting mix of country, rock and even some latin beats. Cardo's voice is distinctive and memorable and really lends power to the songs. Some great guitar by Mitch Perry, especially on "It Could Happen to Anyone". "Shake My Fist at the Sky" starts with a delicate acoustic guitar but quickly builds to a powerful sound with a message anyone can relate to. The holiday song "Christmas Eve Alone" is very catchy and you find yourself humming along.

5.0 out of 5 stars what music should be December 1, 2012
Format:Audio CD
a brilliant collection of real, organic, and refreshing songs.
this is a c.d. that can be played again, and again, with its nice variety. one can hardly
become bored, nor complacent, as each song is unique - a rare find in today's music.

a few of my favourites - "restless spirit" - this song seems as if it was written for me!
"one of these days," "world gone wrong" - beautiful music with a sobering message
most relevant to our everyday lives, "help me tell me"

you can't go wrong here.
