Been shopping for a bluetooth headset for quite awhile and finally settled on the Cardo Scala Q2 multiset for my Goldwing. It seemed to have the best range and you got 2 headsets at a very reasonable price. My wife loves the fact she doesn't have a cord to worry about anymore.

Mounting the clamp to my HJC flip face helmet was very easy and it has stayed secure after 2000 miles. It took 3 tries to get it to pair with my LG Dare, but has worked fine ever since. Only problem I had was the speaker volume, which was very weak inside my HJC thermoplastic helmet at speed. I added a 1/2" thick piece of foam to the ear pocket and mounted the speakers closer to my ears instead of mounting them against the shell. Worked so well I had to lower the volume setting! I now hear everything clearly at 80+mph on the freeway.

Also like the fact you can easily remove the unit for charging and security.

Only gave it 4 stars because the controls are not that intuitive for some people. My passenger has a hard time remembering where to press and for how long.

My wife is a novice rider, I just bought her bike 2 months ago, so we've been tandem riding. I wouldn't think of doing it without the ability to communicate road hazards or sudden turns.

We field tested this on our first "long" trip to Luckenbach. Yes, the Luckenbach, I don't need to say more. It was invaluable to keep us together on the road.

My only complaints would be as follows:
1. There is a definite sound difference between bluetooth phone and the Intercom. When switching, I need to adjust the volume, as one is too soft or too loud.
2. My FM Station memory resets every time I turn the device off.
3. I get poor signal using the MP3 cable.

Also...if you use an iPhone, don't expect to be able to use voice activiation. Even the new 3.0 software won't allow this.

A hint, the bike shops ask about 450 plus tax for this set. On here...it's a steal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!!, June 14, 2009

I am the passenger on my husband's motorcycle and it has been so frustrating not being able to talk to each other. Our local motorcycle shop had the Scala Rider Q2 set for $395.95 and I said I'm gonna look on Amazon to see if I can find them cheaper. Of course I did and it was the best money I've ever spent. My husband is technically challenged so he needed something that was easy to use. What's easier than attaching the the mike to the helmets, charging the battery, turning it on and talking to each other immediately. The clarity is fantastic!!! We've gone 70 mph and continued to talk without a problem. You can't even hear the wind. The Scala Rider CARDO Q2 is AWESOME!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Awesome, July 9, 2009

My cousin bought a set of these for us just before we took a trip up to Monterey for the Moto GP last year. They work great, the sound is really clear, and the unit is a lot more compact than a chatter box. I never setup the bluetooth function on mine, but my cousin did, and he makes calls while riding pretty frequently. Even called me a couple times and it sounded good coming through my cell phone. If I'm going to be riding at highway speeds I like to wear earplugs to reduce the wind noise and protect my hearing; if I do this I can still turn the radio all the way up and hear it pretty clearly, but without all the wind noise. They have a pretty decent range, just make sure to read the directions so you know how to pair it up with the buddy headset. We didn't do this initially and just relied on the signals constantly re-finding eachother, which still worked ok, but they can cut out randomly.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK for the money., August 12, 2010

My wife and I both ride our own bikes and have been searching for bike to bike comm solutions for several years. We've tried various radios, but none worked to our satisfaction. In the summer 2009 we purchased the Scala Rider system. Capabilities are wireless rider to rider communication, this uses bluetooth. Bluetooth headset for a phone. FM receiver and ability to connect an MP3/iPod via a wire.

Rider to rider communication works pretty good. Issues - with the standard foam over the microphone, the wind noise from riding is enough to trigger voice activated microphone. The recommendation from Scala is to disable the voice activation feature, which isn't practical. The solution we found was that if you took a little nylon windbreaker material and put that over the foam - problem solved. The new issue is that you've lost some of the voice activation ability now, so you need to yell into the microphone to get it activate. This may have been solved in newer models? We have been able to use the bike to bike communication over a fairly wide distance. Other than the microphone activation issues, I've been happy with bike to bike communication.

Bluetooth to phone. Works excellent. Works better than the bluetooth hands free in my car. Used it with an LG phone, Motorola Droid and Blackberry Storm.

FM receiver. Needs work, or maybe an antenna? I live in a major metro area with an abundance of radio stations. Unless I'm very close to the transmitters I get no or very scratchy radio reception. I consider the radio feature a bust.

Wired connection to MP3/Ipod - works fine, but it's nothing more than a simple headset in this case. Volume, songs etc.. are all controlled by the MP3/iPod. I tried using the GPS capability on smart phone in conjunction with an iPod and the iPod completely over powered the spoken directions from the iPod. I couldn't get the smart phone to transmit GPS information over bluetooth. Don't know if that was a function of the phone or the scala rider?

Cardo's tech support can be a little slow to respond. They do respond, just might take a week for them to get back to you via email. I called them once, left a message and never received a return call. Email worked much better.

My other complaint, not really a "Cardo" problem is that I found the speakers to be uncomfortable in my helmet. They kind of rub on my ears, which after awhile becomes annoying/sore. I also tried to pair the Scala rider with another vendors (Nolan) bluetooth, the two won't pair. According to Cardo tech support Scala can only be paired with another Scala system. So much for the bluetooth being an industry standard. There are other systems out there, but few are as flexible as the Scala system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best communication set for motorcycles!, July 20, 2010

These Scala's are the best communication sets I think there is! My husband needed a bike to bike setup. We originally had the Chatterbox (BIG mistake!), sold them on ebay and purchased these and have never looked back. They will hold a charge for approximately 9 hours of talking. So we ride all day and chabber up a storm! We used them every time we ride and have gotten quite spoiled by them. Very easy to install, no wind noise hardly at all! We have full face helmets, my friends have them also with open face helmets and are very, very happy with them. Highly recommend!

This review is from: Cardo Systems System Scala Rider Q2 Multi-Headset Communicator System SRMS002
I Purchased this item in 2010 an it hasn't worked yet. It is setting in the closet collecting dust as it doesn't work. The voice mode does not want to activate when you speak into the mike. I contacted the company about this problem, sent the units in and they tell me there is nothing wrong with it. If you just want the listen to the radio it works ok. I purchased it to communicate with my passinger and it doesn't work for that. They say you have to holler "helloooooo" into the mike to activate it going from a alto sound in your voice to a bass as you are saying "helloooooo". Whats up with that? Just to be able to use the unit I have tried doing this and it doesn't help. I and my passinger both wear a full face helmet so i wouldnt think wind would be a factor. What would be the problem with just putting a activation push button on the unit if it won't voice activate. At least a person could use it that way, and get some kind of return for their dollars. They way it is now its just worthless for communications. If you are thinking of purchasing motorcycle communications I would stay away from this unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scala Rider Multiset purchase, September 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This product has added a whole new dimension to motorcycle riding. If you ride a motorcycle regularly with someone else, you've got to have the Scala Rider multiset. No more missing or misinterpreting hand signals. When the front rider sees something, the other rider doesn't miss it. Easier to negotiate stopping and on the fly changes in plans. It makes riding safer and more enjoyable. In my opinion, its worth the price.

The Scala Rider Q2 multiset does everything the manufacturer says it will do.
Mounting the headsets were very easy, It took me about 6 or 7 minutes to mount each
unit.
There are many features to get used to so learning the controls will take a
little time.
The Scala Rider communications are Superior Quality. Crystal Clear,,, We love our Scala Riders.

If you're looking for high quality communications the Scala Riders are what you want.

Definately 5 stars on this product * * * * *
