Outstanding Performance bike to bike, October 29, 2008
This review is from: Cardo Systems Scala Rider Q2 Bike-to-Bike Intercom Communications - New (Misc.)
My friend and I bought units early in the summer. They are very good in bike to bike performance. It makes longer rides more fun and safer, as each rider looks out for the other (road hazards, gravel on curves, stopping traffic, etc). It is very small and easy to put on any helmut and easy to connect with your phone and gps. Battery life depends on usage, but 7 to 8 hours is typical with moderate usage. I highly recommend these devices. A new model was just introduced with longer mic boom (better for full face helmuts) and an auxillary mp3 plugin. This is definitely the "best for the money".

In-route entertainment., August 8, 2009
This review is from: Cardo Systems Scala Rider Q2 Bike-to-Bike Intercom Communications - New (Misc.)
I have had this product for about a year now and am satisfied with it.
By far the primary use is as an FM radio, it is loud enough over the wind noise of my fairing to hear the music or talk shows to make my commute easier.
Secondary is its use as a bluetooth headset. The audio level is a little low for freeway use with my setup, but adequate. The description states that it may be used with more than one device, but that is not a function of the headset, but the GPS that it is connected to, so don't count on using it with multiple BT devices (i.e. cell phone and MP3 player)
I have not used it as an intercom or short range x-ciever yet, but I did not purchase it for that.
Battery life is about 4 hours of FM, a couple of days of commute.

Good wireless headset for phone calls, August 16, 2009
The Cardo Scala 2 works well as a bluetooth headset for my phone, but I was disappointed that the unit was unable to play my MP3's wirelessly from my phone. It turns out that both the phone and the bluetooth device must be A2DP, and while my iPhone is, the Cardo unit is not. (It would be good if the manufacturer mentioned this.) The radio has poor reception and is difficult to use while riding, so for music, this headset is really not very good.
If all you want is to make calls or talk to others with a similar unit, I think this would work very well. I am looking forward to future versions, which will hopefully have the A2DP bluetooth profile.
