5.0 out of 5 stars Care Bears Journey to Joke a lot
My 2 1/2 year old loves this movie. In the last three days I have seen it to the point that I know all the songs. And as he is not feeling well it is the only thing that is currently keeping him happy.

1.0 out of 5 stars A True Disappointment
I just finished watching this movie with my 3 kids (4-1/2 boy and 2-1/2 twin girls). They are all avid Care Bear fans and love the old cartoons. After the initial five minutes where the Care Bears all appear they lost interest. Except for Funshine Bear, you hardly see the other Care Bears as most of the plot takes place in Joke-A-Lot; a land full of grotesque creatures...

I just finished watching this movie with my 3 kids (4-1/2 boy and 2-1/2 twin girls). They are all avid Care Bear fans and love the old cartoons. After the initial five minutes where the Care Bears all appear they lost interest. Except for Funshine Bear, you hardly see the other Care Bears as most of the plot takes place in Joke-A-Lot; a land full of grotesque creatures who are neither amusing or cute to look at. Where are Hugs and Tugs, The Care Bear Stare, Beastly, Shrieky, Lord No Heart? Don't get your hopes up for the CD either - there are 3 songs in the whole movie so I'm sure it will be a waste of money as well.
This movie had great potential - its too bad they blew it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not The Same, October 7, 2004
Okay, Sure this movie is cute and fun like 'Care Bears' of the past but The kids DO seem like 5 year olds. I know this movie is a new continuity but there's something missing.

Fun for little Kids but not for Old Fans. If the 'Care Bear' owners wanted old fans to 're-connect' to the fanbase this movie does NOT do it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Distorting the Care Bears under the guise of 'updating', October 11, 2004
By
ESCK (CT United States) - See all my reviews
I should preface this review by stating that I still love the Care Bears. I own both of their other full-length movies. It was one of my favorite cartoons growing up. And I was always particularly attached to Funshine bear, and cried when I lost my Funshine doll.

So when I heard there would be another movie, this time about Funshine, I was thrilled. Or, I was for the first few moments.

I realize that the producers of this film are attempting to keep the Care Bears fresh for a new generation, and I appreciate that since I would love nothing more than to see these characters last forever. But I think this film diverted from the original *too* much.

The Care Bears are scary looking in CGI. I don't like the lack of villians, it makes Funshine seem like the bad guy. And more importantly, what the (bleep) is up with Funshine being a male bear?

She's female! Can someone please pay a little more attention here? I'm dying. You could at least pretend to care about the original cartoons.

Maybe young kids will like this film, although I think the CGI bears will frighten them. But those of us who grew up with the Care Bears certainly don't appreciate it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Creepy, Scarey, made my child cry!!!, May 10, 2005

This review is from: Care Bears - Journey to Joke-a-Lot [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I taped this movie off of the Disney Channel so that my daughter could watch it after her ear tube surgery. BIG mistake. This movie was dreadful, creepy, mean, and only a few minutes were spent in "Care-A-Lot". Care Bears are supposed to be fluffy, happy, sweet, and caring and I expected a very sugary sweet movie to make my 3 year old, a huge Care Bear fan, smile. Instead she was crying half way through, begging for them to let Sunshine go back home, asking me where did Sunshine's friends go etc.. so I fast-forwarded to the end thinking it would show Sunshine back in Care-A-Lot, but no, just traveling back but no real closure for my traumatized toddler. I give this movie 0 stars. I agree with the other reviewer, who was this movie intended for? Toddler sociopaths?

1.0 out of 5 stars Its not carebears!, June 17, 2005
A Kid's Review
Journey to Joke A lot was not what I was thinking it would be. I love the carebears. My whole room is painted like Care a lot and you could say that I have seen every movie and all the episodes they have on DVD. The only reason this movie can have the carebear name is because they took the carebears (the most famous ones of course) and some of the regular items...like the stars and cars. Nothing else is like carebears. Theres no Hall of Hearts in Carealot...the stars are like DOGS?!?! and what forest is it that they are in when they are going to joke a lot. Its not the forest of feelings because the carebear cousins (which are in everything else carebears) arent in this. and speaking of places...what are happening to the children on earth at this point? the whole point of carealot was for the children on earth. And why is it that they never do a carebear stare in the whole one. Plus why are all the carebears actually MEAN to grumpy. The animation is cool but the whole movie falls short of being a real carebear movie.

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally Bizarre.., July 5, 2008

Okay, my girls, 2 and 4 discovered the Care Bears recently with the Oopsy Does It video. They *loved* it. Sat completely silent through the whole movie just glued to the screen. Wow. They didn't seem as interested in the tv series, so when I found this movie, another with computer-generated Care Bears, I thought it would be a hit. Wrong. This movie is bizarre. Bizarre. It is a little scary, as someone else mentioned. Not at all light, happy and funny like Oopsy Does It. This was darker, eviler. Like this episode was directed by Tim Burton or something. Just weird.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not original, but still cute!, September 7, 2005
By
I agree with everyone else that this is not like the original Care Bears but lets face it, cartoons aren't like they used to be because everything is becoming computer animated now a days. I was a Care Bear fan back in the 80s and I still like this movie. I think that this new animated version is fesh and fun and the story does carry a message that caring about others feelings is important. I didn't find any of the characters to be scary or the story to be dark and suspenseful like the original shows can be. If you look, most of the negative reviews are from older kids who I think those original stories were more geared toward in the first place. I feel that the new age of Care Bears is geared toward a much younger group (who don't have the originals to compare it to). I think this modern version is cute and very appropriate for my 3 year old daughter. But in addition to what I think, my daughter loves the new Care Bears and the Journey to Joke-a-Lot movie also. And don't forget, when you buy the toys in stores they have been modernized too so that they will correspond to the newer characters in the movies. Hope this helps.

3.0 out of 5 stars Weird..., September 7, 2005
A Kid's Review
I think this movie is sort of weird. The Care Bears look different in computer-form, and some of the people(?) in Joke-A-Lot look goofy, and creepy. Joke-A-Lot reminds me of that midget King's place from that RaggedyAnn/Andy movie, because both places are full of goofy animals and kings.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 'Bears are back!, November 9, 2004
My 1-1/2 yr. old son absolutely LOVES this movie. The animation is top notch and really colorful, and the songs are surprisingsly not that annoying... for a kid's cartoon. Deviates from the 80s cartoon quite a bit, but great stuff for new Care Bears fans! Here's hoping for more in this series.
