I am extremely satisfied with Aaliyah's posthumous album. First of all, the CD art, color scheme, and booklet are just beautiful. There are a few gliches in the booklet however. This review is from: I Care 4 U (with Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
I am extremely satisfied with Aaliyah's posthumous album. First of all, the CD art, color scheme, and booklet are just beautiful. There are a few gliches in the booklet however. For example, it says in the booklet "Rock Da Boat" not "Rock The Boat" for the DVD listing. Also, notable hits are neglected from the audio part of the album such as: "If Your Girl Only Knew," "Hot Like Fire (Remix)," and "Rock The Boat." The quality of the DVD and the wonderful songs more than make up for these minor errors. I love the unreleased tracks on the album, and I am thrilled that they are on there. Now, the DVD is the best feature! It contains more videos and extras than the Aaliyah (Limited Edition Album) from 2001! The DVD contains the hard-to-find "Got To Give It Up (Remix)" video, and a good number of other videos, as well as a wonderful behind the scenes and Japanamation commercial for her last album. I will give you a track-to-track critique of the album. ...P>CRITIQUE OF TRACKS

1. Back & Forth (feat. R. Kelly & Mr. Lee): Aaliyah's very first single released back in 1994. Excellent old school song from her first album "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number!"

2. Are You That Somebody (feat. Timbaland & Playa): Aaliyah's single from the "Dr. Dolittle" Soundtrack is one of her most popular songs.

3. One In A Million (feat. Missy Elliott): This classic song is the second single from Aaliyah's sophomore album "One In A Million."

4. I Care 4 U: The last single released from Aaliyah's third album "Aaliyah." This beautiful and moving song was released after her unfortunate death in August 2001. An interesting note about this song is that it was recorded back in 1996, but could not be put on "One In A Million."

5. More Than A Woman: This edgy song is the third single from "Aaliyah."

6. Don't Know What To Tell Ya: This is one of the unreleased songs on "I Care 4 U." It is a great song!! It has great beats and lyrics, and is a typical song of Aaliyah.

7. Try Again: Everyone knows this song!! This song is from the "Romeo Must Die" soundtrack and went to number one just on airplay alone.

8. All I Need: Another unreleased track, but I am not feeling this song too much. It is a little boring.

9. Miss You: This beautiful song is the first single from "I Care 4 U." The video for this song features many artists paying tribute to Aaliyah.

10. Don't Worry: A good unreleased track with great vocals and good beats.

11. Come Over (feat. Tank): A very good unreleased track featuring Tank! I'm not a big fan of Tank, but he sings in the chorus and ad-libs towards the end. Aaliyah sings great on this song!

12. Erica Kane: A very catchy unreleased track with good vocals and good beats, though some may find it annoying.

13. At Your Best (You Are Love): Aaliyah's classic remake of the Isley brothers' hit. This extremely beautiful song is the third single from "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number."

14. Got To Give It Up (Remix): This remix of the third single from "One In A Million" is the version on the "Got To Give It Up" video featured on "I Care 4 U." It is somewhat catchy and weird, but I like it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Complete, But Still Awesome, January 28, 2003
By
This review is from: I Care 4 U (with Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
Aaliyah was a very talented artist. With her sweet voice and unique R&B jams, she was definitely at the top of her game. This collection captures the essence of her and her abilities nicely, but it is not complete. Still the tracks that are provided are for the most part fantastic. Included are 5 top 10 hits and 8 top 40 hits from Aaliyah's career spanning the last 9 years:

1. Back and Forth: (5/5) This track kicks butt. One of the best R&B jams of the 90's, it was Aaliyah's breakthrough and arguably best song. Hit #5 on the pop charts.

2. Are You That Somebody: (5/5) The best R&B single to come out of 1998 hands down. Aaliyah and Timbaland out did themselves. Unique beat. Very cool. Hit #4 on pop charts.

3. One In A Million: (4/5) This is a slower song, but still cool. An Aaliyah must-have. This one hit #25.

4. I Care 4 U: (5/5) I love this song. Another slow jam, but she sings it beautifully and musically, it's outstanding. Kudos to Missy Elliot. Went to #13 on pop charts.

5. More Than A Woman: (4.5/5) This one will have you jamming. Catchy chorus, good backround music, great vocals. Hit #25 also.

6. Don't Know What To Tell Ya: (5/5) The best of the unreleased material, this song needs to be a single. It's catchy as hell and has potential to be a huge hit.

7. Try Again: (5/5) Aaliyah's biggest hit. Went to #1 in the summer of 2000. Again, she and Timbaland kicked on this one. Awesome song. Gotta love the intro.

8. All I Need: (3/5) This is ok. Pales in comparison to other tracks.

9. I Miss You: (4/5) Aaliyah's latest hit. Sweet, sensual, yet innocent. Nice vocals. Is presently at #10 on the pop charts.

10. Don't Worry: (3/5) Ditto to track #8.

11. Come Over: (3/5) Yet again, pleasent, but still nothing to get too overexcited.

12. Erica Kane: (5/5) Very cool song. Great beat and great singing.

13. At Your Best: (4.5/5) The sweet remake of the Isley Brother's original hit. This really shows off Aaliyah's sweet and innocent side. It hit #6 on the pop charts.

14. Got To Give It Up: (4/5) Great dance jam. Not as good as Back and Forth, Try Again, and Are You That Somebody, but still worth the inclusion.

So why 4 stars? Well, a handful of Aaliyah hits were unfairly left off. Most notably, the top 10 hit single "The One I Gave My Heart To" along with top 20 hits "If Your Girl Only Knew" and the fabulous "Rock the Boat." Even the minor hits such as "We Need A Resoltution", "4 Page Letter," and definitely "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" are worthy enough. They're great songs. Oh, well. I guess we can hope for a complete "Greatest Hits" in the future. But for now, this is definitely sufficent. Ashanti, Tweet and the others have nothing on Aaliyah. She's missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Album All AALIYAH Fans Should have., December 10, 2002
By
This review is from: I Care 4 U (with Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
This is an album that includes some of Aaliyah songs from Age Ain't Nothing But A Number, One In A Million and Aaliyah. Also included is some previously unreleased track done by her before her death.

My favs song on the album includes Don't Know What To Tell Ya, All I Need, Miss You & Don't Worry. Come Over and Erica Kane is average. Some of my old favs are Back and Forth, Are You That Somebody, One In A Million, I Care 4 U, More Than A Woman, Try Again & At Your Best. Also included is a remix of Got To Give It Up. The Remix of Got To Give It Up is kinda betta than the original version featuring Slick Rick.

As you can see, almost all the songs on I Care 4 U are great. This is definitely the last album that we hear from Aaliyah. Aaliyah is gone forever and she will be remembered forever by her fans. If you are not a fans of her, I recommend you all of her past album, "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number", "One In A Million" and the last original album by her "AALIYAH". We Care 4 U... AALIYAH, RIP.

THIS NEW CD BY AALIYAH SHOW US HOW TALENTED SHE WAS.
BY LISTENING TO THE MUSIC ON HER CD YOU CAN TELL HOW HER VOICE HAS CHANGE OVER THE YEARS.
HER OLD HITS AND NEW RELEASES ARE WONDER.
ON THIS CD THE ONLY SONG I DON'T CARE FOR IS
"GOT TO GIVE IT UP" REMIX.
I WISH THAT THIS SONG WAS REMOVED OFF THE CD AND BE REPLACED BY
"4PAGE LETTER" OR "JOURNEY TO THE PAST" OR "HOT LIKE FIRE" OR "IF YOUR GIRL ONLY KNEW"
AALIYAH GREW UP IN FRONT OF OUR EYES
TO A BEAUTIFUL AND TALENTED WOMAN
IF YOU BUY THIS CD LISTEN REALLY GOOD TO THE SONGS AND WATCH THE DVD OF HER VIDEOS.
YOU WILL REALLY SEE WHAT A TRUE PERFORMER SHE WAS.
AALIYAH'S DEATH WAS VERY TRAGIC BUT SHE HAS LEFTED HER FANS HER SOUL IN HER MUSIC.
I REALLY DO THINK THAT IN SOME OF HER SONGS ON THIS CD SHE IS SENDING HER FANS MESSAGES THAT SHE MISSES US AND DON'T WORRY ABOUT ME.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Care 4 U - Something Is Missing..., December 12, 2002
By
Andrew Jacob (Brooklyn, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Care 4 U (with Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
First Impressions: Good, But could be better...

First of all, i would like to say that i am a huge fan of Aaliyah, and i loved her music BEFORE she died...i didn't use her death as an excuse to like her music...since 1 out of 5 people are...

Well anyway, the album can be defined as a good tribute, but a lot of her major hits are missing. Where is "If Your Girl Only Knew", "Four Page Letter", "The One I Gave My Heart To" just to name a few. And i was disappointed at the fact that "I Am Music" was missing from the album, since it's technically, the last studio song she did before her tragic death. Honestly, there IS enough room, i mean, theres only 14 songs on the audio disc. Wats up with that? The DvD was pretty good, i have no complaints.

To elaborate a bit more...

1) Back & Forth [70/100] - a good intro song, it took things a bit old school

2) Are You That Somebody [70/100] - Timbaland's beats have really shined in this track...and obviously Aaliyah's vocals

3) One In A Million [70/100] - Aaliyah's breakthru song, it really put her into the r&b scene, and the song remains very special

4) I Care 4 U [90/100] - A very nicely done ballad. The Lyrics were also nicely done by missy elliot. It's a bit slow, but it's atmospheric with the lyrics

5) More Than A Woman [95/100] - A Sorta "Aaliyah Anthem" in which she proclaims that she is matured and literally "more than a woman"

6) Don't Know What To Tell Ya [100/100] - honestly, this song shines through the whole album, it has a radio friendly chorus and a nice beat, although it is a bit long [due to the chorus], its still very addictive

7) Try Again [85/100] - The grammy winning song. It sends a vert positive message along with telling a story of love.

8) All I Need [65/100] - The lyrics are nice, but it just doesn't sound right..maybe its the beat? or the fact that she's singing a bit too low on the chorus..

9) Miss You [85/100] - A Song about a past relationship that ended due conflicts with schools and stuff. A good teen cross over adult song

10) Don't Worry [80/100] - It has nice beat...a good flow

11) Come Over [90/100] - A Nice slow jam ballad. Sorta of a twist or Aftermath of "Miss You"

12) Erica Kane [50/100] - The chorus really killed the song...

13) At Your Best [80/100] - a nice love song, although the beat (if you consider it to be a beat) is kinda, "not best quality", it really matches well with the lyrics.

14) Got To Give It up (New Remix) [75/100] - Its a nice club song, and much better than the previously released version...

Overall, i am satisfied with spending 17 dollars on the album, but i'm still disappointed on the fact that they could've done MUCH MUCH better...maybe a 20 song audio disc would've been much more satisfying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aaliyah's Farewell, August 14, 2004
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: I Care 4 U (with Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
"I Care 4 U" is part greatest hits collection and part farewell: sampling eight of Aaliyah's biggest hits as well as six previously unreleased songs. Some of her best hits from her three studio CDs are here: "Back and Forth," "One In a Million," "I Care 4 U," "More Than a Woman," and "At Your Best." Fortunately, her two biggest soundtrack hits are also included: "Are You That Somebody" (from Dr. Dolittle) and "Try Again" (from "Romeo Must Die"). These hits show why Aaliyah was such as huge star: her work with Timbaland and Missy Elliot epitomized cutting-edge R&B. The only previously released non-hit is a remixed version of her Marvin Gaye cover, "Got to Give It Up," which is vastly better than the dated original. The only problem is that this collection should have been released as a double CD with all of her prior hits, such as "If Your Girl Only Knew" and "The One I Gave My Heart To."

The new selections are solid and show how Aaliyah continued to grow as an artist. "Miss You" is particularly good; it's really quite beautiful and somewhat reminiscent of Minnie Ripperton's "Loving You." The only dud is "Erika Kane" - a somewhat boring paean to Susan Lucci's soap character. Overall, this CD is sure to please fans of Aaliyah and hip-hop. The loss of this great artist is tragic, and can be summed up for her fans by her lyric from "Miss You" - I miss you/ It's been too long/ and I'm lost without you.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Rushed and completley thrown together package!, January 27, 2003
By
This review is from: I Care 4 U (with Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
I am the biggest Aaliyah fan you will ever meet before and after the death. She was one of the most innovative creative forces in R&B, and is already missed. With the exception of Kelis, Neptunes, Missy Elliot's and Timbalands contributions R&B is DEAD! I rarely listen R&B because Hip hop Is the replacement it seems. But anyway this package is really sad considering the fact we waited a year and 3 months for it. First of all how are you going to throw 6 hits and 6 unreleased tracks on the same disc? Aaliyah had enough singles and hits to complete an 80 min disc. Also the selection of hits isn't what everyone wanted to hear. They failed to to put great songs like "Hot like Fire"(remix) and "If your girl only knew". And what happened to the "At your best (Remix)"? This should have been a 2 disc set featuring B-sides/Unreleased and all the Hits! Aaliyah's B-side's and soundtrack songs were great works of art. How can you forget songs like "Are you Feelin me?" Blackground records (which is owned by her Uncle) should have really tried to convey her full potiental. This is a half cocked effort which really doesn't showcase alot. Oh my goodness! the video collection was a joke as well! It was fuzzy and looked like VHS quality! You can not play all the video's at once. Also my dvd player has a hard time reading the disc. I was really upset when "At your Best/If your girl only knew/The one I gave my heart to/Hot like fire, were not featured on this Dvd. If the quality isn't going to be there at least give us the selections. I don't care what kind of trouble R K[e]lly is in, he was a HUGE part of her career. His contributions should be on the Dvd and Hits. Even though Timbalands works were much better the "At your Best (Remix) was a exceptionally great song, and marked the beginning! We were fortunate to get the "4 page letter video" I was shocked! The unreleased songs were real laid back and would have sounded better mixed in with a complete collection. They were not bad but they seemed like they needed company and support. Aaliyah's power wasn't in her album material, alot of it was in her soundtrack songs/B-sides/remixes also she had solo's on her family albums such as Timbalands. Her last album was the most consistant work at of all three. But in between "One In a million" she had a slew of works that were never heard Produced by Timbaland. "One in a Million" was the beginning of a innovative sound. With the exception of Timbalands works the rest of the album was weak. Those are the works that should be brought to the forefront. It really upsets me when a great artist doesn't get the credability they deserve. And then rushed thrown together efforts like this come out it just makes it worse. The cover really rattled my chain to, it was extremley cheap and sad. We know she is gone, we don't need to be constantly reminded of the trajedy. They could have put a sexy/or representable image of Aaliyah on the package. After all she was a sex symbol we are not talking about Witch Hazel here! How are they expecting to sell this? I walked right past it in the store several times with out knowlege. The package is cheap and what ever the cost is, I hope you realize what you are getting yourself in to. Do this for the love of the unreleased tracks and I guess to say you own some video's.. nothing more. The title "I care 4 You" is nothing more than a cheap promotional skeem to sell the record from the heat of the song. Sad to say but this really is disrespectful to someone as great as she was.

And for the record the cover art and the name of the cd "sickened me" the first time I saw it!

Also I felt the Unreleased material should have been redone by "Timbaland and Missy Elliot in tribute"

5.0 out of 5 stars We miss you Baby Girl!, December 18, 2002

This review is from: I Care 4 U (with Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
Our wonderful, beautiful, talented, intelligent most exalted Aaliyah is gone. We, her true fans, will miss her immensley

Fortunately, we still her her music here with us. The seven new tracks are worth the price of the CD. They all offer more Aaliyah. Not one of them is a "filler" song. I'm really appreciative of her label for giving her fans solid songs.

The videos on the CD are perfect (of course) but you can't play them in the DVD player on your computer. I assume this is to regulate transferring the file to your friends but some of us would like Aaliyah playing when we start up our computers :-)

To the people saying there aren't enough "favorites" on the audio disc and the DVD... I have over 80 songs by Aailyah and almost all of them are my favorites so it would be very hard for the label to customize a CD for each of us. I think the selection was right on *except* for the exclusion of the Hot Like Fire song and video.

Of course I reccommend the CD. I could only give it five stars but Aaliayh is now in heaven among many...
