The Care of Bronze Sculpture was written for the collector of fine art cast and/or fabricated in bronze, giving various recommended maintenance programs both for indoor as well as outdoor environments. These programs are written in order to give the art collector choices on various levels of protection necessary for such surroundings. Detailed step by step instructions along with corresponding photos take the collector through this easy process of cleaning and waxing newer bronze castings. Various commercially available paste waxes used in the traditional protection of bronze sculpture are also discussed in detail. In the fourth edition of this award winning book, a new chapter titled Maintaining Art in Public Places has been added for artwork installed in a public setting, and the vast differences there are between maintaining art in a private collection as opposed to art within the public s domain. This chapter explains in detail how best to go about maintaining public art and these recommendations are based upon and structured according to the Code of Ethics And Guidelines for practice set forth by the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) as well as the author s personal experiences dealing with conservation issues involving public art in many municipalities and large private collections on public display. Such vital information such as placement, explaining the true importance of a qualified and experienced fine arts objects conservator and their duties, and above all, what recommended maintenance procedures should be followed for the best protection possible, are all discussed in detail. About the Author
Patrick Kipper s artistic reputation with art foundries, sculptors, galleries and museums in the art of bronze patination and fine art conservation is internationally known and respected. Beginning his artistic carrier after a short stint in teaching philosophy on the university level, Patrick began working in the art of patination at an art foundry in Loveland, Colorado, where he developed many patina concepts and artistic techniques that are now used around the world today. Moving up in the ranks at an art foundry and learning all aspects of the fine art casting process, Mr. Kipper left the confines of an art foundry to begin his own career concentrating on bronze sculpture patination and fine art conservation. As a result of over 35 years of experience in this unique fine art of bronze coloration, Mr. Kipper s immense interest in this art form has taken him not only from coast to coast, but has allowed him to travel to many other parts of the world where he has been most fortunate to work with and learn from master patineurs of the classical and contemporary styles. Patrick presently lectures and demonstrates the art of patinas both nationally as well as internationally, at major institutes of art in the academic as well as private sectors. He also maintains his patina and conservation studio in Loveland, Colorado, where on occasion, he still gives workshops that, in the past have drawn people from all over the world.

Not particularly advanced, but good for the collector and many bronze artists. Slightly repetitive, but affirmative of very good bronze finishing/conservation practices in a variety of enviroments.
