For those who still value a troubador with a message,

Is there a more thoughtful line than "I wish I had of known enough of love to leave love enough alone"?
Or a sadder concept to be echoing in the mind in the early morn with thoughts of "him" sharing "our early morning sun" ... haunting, heartfelt and very moving. This track, Winter in America" has been with me on vinyl for more than twenty years and still holds pride of place. Not for the average inner city urchin with a vocabulary of the usual 400 words, but for people who value lyricism and a well crafted songs with meaning and substance.

Music You Shouldn't Miss,

This review is from: Career Collection 1965-2000 (Audio CD)
Honestly, I cannot understand why Doug Ashdown never became a household name. His songs are thougthfully crafted and emotionally moving. They are delivered with exquisite guitar accompanyment and his beautiful voice. Think of all the best that James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot and Glen Campbell offer vocally and musically and Doug has outdone them.
If you have never heard these songs, never heard Doug Ashdown's magic, you have missed a real experience. The price of this CD is absurdly low given the material it contains. If you are even vaguely thinking of buying this, do. You will thank yourself. I cannot rate this musician/artist too highly. I have everything he ever recorded and released and still enjoy listening to his songs, cannot imagine not being moved by them. This will be a real additional to your musical library.
