Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 6-9-Outstanding career books for middle-school students. The authors introduce six workers, each with a slightly different job description, within a broad field. Each person takes a chapter to describe the workday and concludes by detailing the education needed to succeed. Text boxes highlight other important topics to consider such as "Is this career for you?" or "Related careers." The chapters conclude with suggestions for getting started and activities to try in order to measure one's interest in a particular field. With their full-color photographs, these books are visually more appealing than VGM's "Career Portraits" series, which is for the same audience. However, both have the same wide variety of information personalized by the introduction of actual practitioners in the field. VGM's series, although dense with print, includes one-page biographies of personalities well known in the occupation. Librarians may want to pick and choose among the career topics offered by both.-Blair Christolon, Prince William Library, Manassas, VA
