Book Description

June 1996 1886750009 978-1886750005 1st
You've dressed for success, polished your resume, and practiced your interviewing skills. You have read the latest "how-to" business book. But one look at today's workplace will leave you asking, "Now what?"

The days of job security - where you could have a job for life - are long gone. Change is the only constant. As entrepreneurship and small business come to the forefront, opportunities abound for creativity, new ideas and strategies.

Bridging the gap between career "how-to" books and self-help/motivational books, Career Crossroads is a collection of essays and inspirational writings about both people and topics at the leading edge of "careering."

It offers thoughts to ponder and transform, routes to revitalization and rethinking your goals, personal triumphs and tribulations. It is a motivational tool designed to lift your spirits when you need that extra boost to keep on moving in your life and work.

Career Crossroads offers a philosophical, posit! ive, proactive approach to "reinventing" yourself to meet the demands of the new workplace. Most of the material comes from weekly programs at WorkTalk(r), a support/information group in New York City now celebrating its fifth year. This book delivers the essence and spirit of some of the best of WorkTalk(r) programs. It provides solid advice, suggestions, strategies, comfort, insight and inspiration. Drawing from sources as diverse as the Bible and Greek philosophy, this book offers self-renewal, vitality, guidance and hope as you map out your work and life journey.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"For those who need a friend in time of need, there is no better choice than WorkTalk and Marian Karpen, and no better source of help than this book." -- Paul Strauss, Ph.D., Farleigh-Dickinson University

About the Author

Marian J. Karpen has successfully engineered several career transitions - from Paris fashion editor for Women's Wear Daily (where she coined the nickname "Jackie O"), to principal in one of the world's largest Wall Street investment banking firms, to international businesswoman, to the founder of two nonprofit career-related organizations. Throughout the U.S. she has organized seminars and lectured extensively on various financial and business topics, and guided many at their career crossroads into successful transitions. In the spring of 1992 she founded WorkTalk in New York City as a not-for-profit support/information group to address cutting edge issues in the workplace today - but with an inspirational, motivational, and spiritual overtone.

Ms. Karpen is listed in such international biographical publications as Who's Who in America. She is an internationally syndicated journalist, radio and television correspondent, and continues to write freelance articles, organize and conduct seminars, facilitate job/career workshops, and lecture.
