About the Author
Dr. Reardon has held full-time counseling and teaching positions at FSU since 1966, when he was first employed as a counselor in the Counseling Center. As a faculty member in the Division of Student Affairs, his current position is Director of Instruction, Research, and Evaluation in the Career Center; Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems; and Co-Director of the Center for the Study of Technology in Counseling and Career Development. He is also the Coordinator of the Career Specialization (http://www.career.fsu.edu/techcenter/student/prospective/programs.html) in the Psychological Studies in Education Program in the College of Education. He has co-authored several books, including Career Development and Planning: A Comprehensive Approach (2000, with Janet Lenz, Jim Sampson, and Gary Peterson). Dr. Reardon has published more than 75 articles in professional journals, focusing on the research and development of innovative career interventions for college students and adults, and featuring the use of educational and occupational information. He has also received multiple awards for his contributions.
Janet Lenz is currently the Associate Director for Career Advising, Counseling, and Programming in the Florida State University Career Center. Her responsibilities include training and development for graduate students pursuing careers in career services, providing direct services, and teaching an introduction to career development class. She also has a courtesy appointment as an Assistant Professor in the College of Education's Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems and serves as a Senior Research Associate in the Center for the Study of Technology in Counseling and Career Development. Dr. Lenz has been a practicing professional in the career services area since 1976. She was the President of the National Career Development Association in 2004-2005 and continues to serve on the NCDA Board of Trustees.
Jim Sampson is currently a Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems at Florida State University, where he has taught courses in career development and computer applications in counseling since 1982. Since 1986 he has served as Co-Director of the Center for the Study of Technology in Counseling and Career Development. As part of his efforts to translate theory into practice, he is an author of the Career Thoughts Inventory (CTI) along with Gary Peterson, Janet Lenz, Robert Reardon, and Denise Saunders. In 1990 he received the National Career Development Association Merit Award. In 1995 he received the National Occupational Information Coordinating Committee Recognition Award. Along with Robert Reardon he received the 1996 American Counseling Association Ralph Berdie Memorial Research Award. In 1997 he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Computer-Based Systems for Career Information. In 1998 he received the President?s Award from the National Career Development Association. Along with Robert Reardon he received the 1999 American Counseling Association Extended Research Award. In 2001 he received the Eminent Career award from the National Career Development Association. He was elected as an Overseas Fellow at the National Institute for Careers Education and Counselling in Cambridge, United Kingdom (1997 to the present). He was appointed as a Visiting Professor at the University of Joensuu in Finland (1999), at the University of Derby in the United Kingdom (2001 to the present), and at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland (2002 to the present).
Gary Peterson has been a member of the Florida State University faculty since 1972. He presently is a full professor in the College of Education and coordinator of the program, Psychological Services in Education in the Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems. He is also the Clinical Training Director of the Combined Doctoral Program in Counseling Psychology and School Psychology and a senior research associate in the Center for the Study of Technology in Counseling and Career Development. Dr. Peterson is a licensed Psychologist in Florida. During his career at Florida State University he has published over 40 journal articles and has co-authored multiple books including Career Development and Services: A Cognitive Approach (1991; with Jim Sampson and Robert Reardon; Brooks-Cole Publishing).
