3.0 out of 5 stars Career Counseling
This is a wonderful tool that introduces you to the many aspects of career counseling, development. It will remain in my library after grad courses are complete. The material will help me to identify theories and strategies that I could use to assist future clients'.

I am certain that I will be reading more of D. Brown in the future.

Sincerely,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Improved and Expanded 9th Edition, December 16, 2006
Now in its ninth edition, this book has become the standard of the field. It is intended to help those whose job it is to facilitate the career development process. This includes school, employment, career and rehabilitation counselors as well as other individuals who are influential in the career development process.

The ninth edition has improvements in virtually all areas, the most important of which is that it now meets all Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) standards. Another area that has been expanded is the concept of a career that changes from time to time in the workers life. Based on chaos theory, this realizes that the outlook for particular jobs, particular careers change from time to time and in unpredictable ways.

The strengths that this book brings to the subject in the form of the writing style and intellectual depth of the author remain; making this book both educational and entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best every-day reference book, June 15, 2011
By
Julie LaCroix (Newport Beach, CA) - See all my reviews
For anyone looking to really understand the theories, applications, methods and information relating to career counseling, this is the book for you. I have read this book several times and use it as a reference in my private practice at least once a week. When I come across a new issue with a client, I can always find the information I need in this book.

I have to admit, I do call it my Career Counseling Bible - it has taught me my entire foundation of career-related counseling and I find it easy to read and practical.

Dr. Brown simply cannot go into the greatest detail on every topic, since so much is covered here. But that is the strength of the book, that any topic you are interested in learning about is introduced here, and you are given several references to access for deeper learning. Great breadth.

I would recommend this book for any student or counselor looking to specialize in the field of career as the base book upon which you build your own professional reference library. Thank you Dr. Brown!

well written and informative. easy to follow and not too much information crowded into a chapter. Each chapter has a summary that I found to be very thorough...Would recommend the book to anyone beginning to study career and employment counseling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Using Text Five Years After Class, December 11, 2009
By
The was an assigned textbook (8th edition) in a Career Development Counseling class I took five years ago and I still refer to it. Career counseling is a required course in all graduate counseling programs whether state approved for licensing or CACREP, CORE, and COAMFTE accredited programs. This is a classic text that provides foundational knowledge needed for practice or just getting through the licensing examination. I highly recommend it !

5.0 out of 5 stars Great timing and in good condition, October 3, 2011
The book arrived on time and in the condition specified. Although it's an older edition, it's very similar to the new edition, so I would recommend it as a way to save money. All you need to do is save the Table and Contents of the newest edition to your computer and refer to it when determining which chapters in the older edition you should be reading in order to be covering the same material. So far, this method is working well in my class, which has already reached mid-term. Enjoy!

Book is OK - I had to purchase it for a class. It could have been organized better by the publishers.
