5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly accurate
I was surprised at how accurate this book was. And when I read the careers that matched my personality, the list contained my current career, a career I've been recently studying for hoping to make a change, as well as a few other careers that I've seriously considered in the past. In fact every career that I seriously considered was in the list. I was amazed. My wife...

1.0 out of 5 stars CAREER MISMATCH
Was a regretful purchase even at the reduced rate that I purchased it at. Only about 10 pages of the approx. 250 in the book apply to each specific type. It offers little to no more than what can be found on free online personality page under recommended career paths.

I was surprised at how accurate this book was. And when I read the careers that matched my personality, the list contained my current career, a career I've been recently studying for hoping to make a change, as well as a few other careers that I've seriously considered in the past. In fact every career that I seriously considered was in the list. I was amazed. My wife took the test and she found hers pretty accurate as well and it's helping her with her in between jobs job search. For the price it's entertaining and fun, yet helpful at the same time. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get to know yourself better and how to work with others, February 16, 2007
By
This review is from: Career Match: Connecting Who You Are with What You'll Love to Do (Paperback)
What I absolutely loved about this book is the way it is written. You will feel like the author is speaking with you. It feel personalized and customized as you read. The 4 color categories are very well described and if you can't figure out what your color is, there is even a test included in the book!!!

What's more is the fact that this book will help you understand what your skills and talents are and help you figure out what type of career/industry would the most ideal for you to be able to enhance your skills and add value to the organization.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to succeed, not only in the business/professional arena, but in personal relationships as well. You will learn to be more observant and react towards people the best way the message would get across to him/her. Get the book and you will see!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Assessment, August 13, 2007
By
This review is from: Career Match: Connecting Who You Are with What You'll Love to Do (Paperback)
I compared the Color Match assessment test with many others and Color Match wins for several reasons. 1. Ease of testing 2.Accurate results 3. Excellent career suggestions. More importantly, I learned so much about myself. . . . why my last job was the wrong culture for me, what to look for the next time, how to make a business presentation to a "Blue", why some relationships just don't seem to work. There is so much here that is more than career. However, I will never hire again without giving this test to the candidate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oddly Reassuring, Highly Recommended, February 22, 2008

I have read a number of books of this type, and this is one of the most helpful I've found. The initial test is very quick and, for me, very accurate. Many of my preferences for how, where, and why I like to work are listed for my type. Seeing them written here assures me that there really are reasons for the work environment that I prefer, and the work types that I gravitate toward.

Of additional benefit are the sections on how to work with different types of people. I find that being a Red/Blue/Introvert, it's quite natural to have differences with my Gold/Green/Extrovert colleague. More importantly, it gives me some tips as to how my co-worker thinks, what they find important and how to deal with them. Even if it sounds crazy to me.

I also like that the occupational descriptions are very up-to-date, something that I find lacking in most career matching books or on-line tests. I have already recommended this book to several of my friends.

This is Myers-Briggs light; easier to understand than the standard four letter system. It's also more weighted toward application than theory, making it immediately useful, especially for Red/Blues who have little patience with something that doesn't yield some immediate results!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Right, March 16, 2007
This review is from: Career Match: Connecting Who You Are with What You'll Love to Do (Paperback)
Trying to find a career is not the easiest thing but it is easier if you know who you are. This book helps you do that. It puts things into perspective and helps you truly understand yourself and others.

You take a little quiz, find what Color matches you, find out whether you're an introvert or extrovert and read some great chapters which give you some amazing detail that will match you exactly. You might even think the author knew you personally because she is right on target.

There are many suggestions on how to deal with other people in general and how to improve your experience on the job. The greatest thing about this book is that it talks about not only things that relate to you and your personality style but about others, the people who you have to deal with on a daily basis.

This book is extremely helpful and is just right! I would suggest to get this book for a better understanding of everyone around you and especially yourself.

I work as a career consultant and will utilize this book with clients. It is a great re-thinking of some more standard and longer personality assessments. I took the quiz myself and read the pertinent chapters and they were right on the money as to my perfect employment.

2.0 out of 5 stars Myers-Briggs test isn't for everyone, February 28, 2011
By
This review is from: Career Match: Connecting Who You Are with What You'll Love to Do (Paperback)
While this is a well done book and it will be very helpful for some, for those of you who take this test and something doesn't quite click, don't despair. Try another route. The Myers-Briggs test which this book is based on isn't the only type of aptititude test out there.

In my case, I took the Myers-Briggs test a couple times early on after college and it really didn't help me. After taking the test I also read a number of the different 16 personality types and thought they applied equally well to me. There were any different career options for each personality type that I really didn't end up with any sort of focus. Because I didn't think to try another style of test, I went along in a finance career for over ten years that I really didn't find fully engaging.

Thankfully, in my thirties I did end up finding another book (Discover What You're Best At by Linda Gale) that hit the nail on the head for me. As a result of this and another test by Johnson O'Connor I went back to school to become an industrial engineer and I love what I do. Also, if you want to spend more, the top career testing outfit in the country is called Johnson O'Connor (which is not for profit) does a great job and also identified my current career. While the price is high, the investment you make in your career is far greater.

The reason I bought this book is because I wanted to help a young person find some direction and I bought it. After reading through this and taking the personality test, this didn't come close to identifying the career I'm in now. The Myers-Briggs test is just too general and doesn't provide much guidance.

If this book and the Myers-Briggs test work you you, great. If not, try other types of tests. It is well worth the effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy, insightful, great resource, December 21, 2007
This review is from: Career Match: Connecting Who You Are with What You'll Love to Do (Paperback)
Have read numerous versions of interest inventories, skill guides, and aptitude assessments in my hunt for 'what I want to be when I grow up' (in my forties now - but don't let that throw you, what I enjoy most is change.) At first glance, thought "okay - another one of these" but it's not just "another one" - it's one of the easiest to follow, and insightful. If you're just starting your search - this is a great place to start, if you renewing your search, it's a refreshing look at material that's been overdone and over analyzed.
