Editorial Reviews

Review

This well-written, superbly organized book offers a former clinical research company hiring manager s unique perspective, which complements and completes the training and advice students receive in undergraduate and graduate school. Chapter layouts are efficient, with major points bulleted, and concise, clear text categorized under well-planned, meaningful headings...Nothing is omitted from this volume. It would be an appropriate and wise choice for the personal library of any science mentor and all science graduates. --Choice

The book by Rebecca Anderson….is an excellent resource for job seekers. It would also be helpful for recent hires new to the industry, as well as for more experienced staff who mentor less-experienced colleagues…goes well beyond career opportunities…has an extensive list of reference materials…those new to the industry and those trying to break in to the industry will find this book very helpful… --Global Forum

I've finally read something that helps me understand the field and its major job categories....Anderson's book is a great introduction for anyone considering careers related to drug clinical trials, which is what this career area is all about....In this clear and well-written book, readers can read from front to back to understand how the clinical trials process works or dive into a section describing a carerer path that sounds appealing. The book has seven sections that describe seven career paths available to people seeking to break into the field....my impressions of this book are very positive... --Science

Format: Hardcover
Career Opportunities in Clinical Drug Research is an invaluable resource for anyone considering a career in the clinical sciences. Anderson describes the following careers in her book: clinical research associates, data managers, biostatisticians, clinical quality assurance auditors, regulatory affairs associates, clinical safety associates, medical writers or clinical operations careers (clinical project managers, study and training managers and clinical QA associates).

Intended for undergraduates and graduate students, the book describes careers in detail and in a systematic fashion. The necessary information is provided to help readers decide which clinical careers are of interest, and what is needed to find a job.

Each chapter is written in a personalized tone, depicting what a typical day would be, outlining aspects of the job, roles and responsibilities, requirements, career advancement opportunities, and how to land a position, in addition to a long list of resources at the end of each chapter. There are additional chapters that describe the clinical development process and job finding tips, such as resume development and interviewing tips.

The book is well written, easy to read and full of useful insights--I highly recommend it.

In this economy good paying jobs are hard to come by. The author of this book provides excellent information regarding the range of career opportunities that will serve college grads as well as those seeking to switch career tracks.

Additionally, this well written book provides one of the best explanations of the drug development processes that you could ever find. As a tool for the job seeker who is not familar with the industry this book will give the reader a leg-up on others competing for these high paying careers and set you on a path to success.

This is an excellent resource and "must read" for those interested in a career in Clinical Research in the pharmaceutical industry. I have spent over 25 years in the pharma industry working in cross-functional teams, and I was highly impressed with the thoroughness of Dr. Anderson's treatment of all the possible career choices in Clinical Research. This is the perfect guide for anyone who wants to understand the educational background, skills and personal qualities necessary to succeed in this field. The author includes "career path" information, describes a typical "day in the life" of each position title, and an excellent reference section of additional resources to consult for further information, including links to websites for professional societies, licensing and certification, and Continuing Medical Education credits.
