More About the Author

I work fulltime investigating and writing about all things paranormal, which means I lead a most unusual and highly adventurous life. I have written more than 45 books, including single-volume encyclopedias, on a variety of topics, A-Z, angels to zombies and everything in between. I'm interested in the entire spectrum of the paranormal, for everything fits together. I go off in the field to investigate reports of ghosts, UFOs, aliens, ultraterrestrials, Shadow People, Bigfoot, mysterious creatures, Djinn, demons, angels, fairies and more. I am frequently out on the road, and I've had plenty of first-hand experiences of many of the things I document in my books. Writing may seem like a glamourous job where you scribble down a few words and bingo, the money starts flowing. Career Opportunities for Writers brings one back to reality and shows what jobs are available out there for those who are devoted to making writing their career.

Written in a straight forward manner this guide book outlines eleven areas in which a writer's skill is needed in the job market. A description of the job, salary, education, prospects for advancement and other pertinent information is shared which gives you a realistic appraisal of what to expect in the job market. The text also provides you with invaluable information regarding web sites for writers, professional writer's associations and other useful information.

This book is not a how to find a writing job. Nor does it give a list of writing positions available in various locales. What makes it a valuable resource is that it provides you with a wide sweeping view of the jobs available in the field. For those looking for a second career or those who are just starting a career in writing this is the book to have in order to see the possibilities.

This book addresses its audience well, but everyone else may be disappointed. A thorough list of jobs that writers can apply for is listed, along with informative definitions and income estimates. The book will not help you apply for any of the listed jobs, however, and one has to wonder about the accuracy of Guiley's information. Surely a journalist in Houston will make more money than one in a rural town. If you love to write and do not know what opportunities are out there for writers, however, then this book is a great place to start.

If you are completely clueless about your options, then flip through this book at the library for ideas. Information is minimal--not worth buying.
