1.0 out of 5 stars The Incomplete Guide to Career Success with Pets, August 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Career Success With Pets: How to Get Started, Get Going, Get Ahead (Paperback)
This book was a disappointment. Its subtitle is "A complete guide to starting your own rewarding career with pets", but this book is far from complete. It fails to mention some of the most basic considerations, such as liability insurance. While none of the advice was way off base, the danger of this book is that someone may read it and get an oversimplified idea of how easy it is to start their own business. I think that the books also glosses over the experience and education required to start some pet related businesses; for example, the section on pet training suggests that people who have, ". . . a general knowledge of working with animals. . ." may wish to start this type of business. The author never mentions that it would be beneficial to have experience training animals, to have taken a training course, or to have any real, relevant experience. Encouraging people to leap before they look is a disservice to them and to any customers they may have.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not comprehensive, but a good overview, April 8, 2007
This review is from: Career Success With Pets: How to Get Started, Get Going, Get Ahead (Paperback)
Although I must agree with the reviewer who said this guide should not have been advertised as a "comprehensive" one, it does offer a good overview of many different careers that involve pets. Many jobs are ones that would not normally cross the average pet-lover's mind, such as pet photography. Sure, the book is not so much business-oriented as an overview. But for someone who loves animals and is in search of a meaningful career working with them, it certainly provides food for thought and can act as a springboard from which to do further research into the potential career of one's choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad book., March 2, 2005

Marcus "Marcus" (Birmingham, AL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Career Success With Pets: How to Get Started, Get Going, Get Ahead (Paperback)
I like this book because the author covers a lot of ideas that one may not have thought of. For example: Becoming a Pet Paramedic and operating a Pet Retirement Home. They're plenty of books that covers insurance, and business setup, such as business plans. But regarding the pet career books out there, I found this one quite refreshing.
