5.0 out of 5 stars A knockout album from one of the most genuine musicians!, April 4, 2005

Those of you that are familiar with Lennon Murphy have undoubtedly heard her "5:30 Saturday Morning" album. Well, take away everything but piano and voice and it becomes "Career Suicide." My favorite song on "5:30..." was the title track, which, coincidentally, is strictly piano and voice. Lennon rocks and showcases as a rock & roll diva but her passion and talent really shine when she performs at the piano.

Lennon writes all of her songs at the piano then translates them to rock & roll. Though the band versions of her songs rock, I really love the acoustic versions because they reflect the original passion and poetry that went into the songs. You can sense Lennon's emotions through her vocal and piano dynamics. Instead of angst you feel disappointment; instead of anger/hatred you feel betrayal; instead of lust you feel desire. Rock and roll is great for portraying strong emotions (love, hate, lust, angst, etc.) but the more subtle emotions get drowned out.

I highly recommend this album to anyone who appreciates real music and a true musician.

I enjoy comparing the accoustic ballad-like versions to the rock versions on 5:30.

If you're strictly interested in Lennon's heavier rock work, this may not be your cup of tea. On the other hand, you may not like Lennon's harder rock, but could end up enjoying these (primarily) piano renditions a great deal.

'Main Gravel Road' (for which there is no rock version that I know of) is haunting and beautiful. I especially enjoyed the piano version of 'Couldn't Breath' (I love the rock version from the 5:30 CD as well). The two have a very different feel. 'Asking You' was another favorite. On the Career Suicide CD, it starts a-capella and ends with a sort-of distortion piano backing, which is how the heavier version of the same song starts on the 5:30 CD.
Lennon is a talented and versatile musician. If you enjoy strong singing, good lyrics, and piano, you should enjoy this album. If you prefer harder rock, try her 5:30 CD, which is also really good. If you simply love Lennon, or are interested in comparing music development between hard rock and piano ballad, get both !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as '5:30' but ..., October 22, 2004

Lennon's 'Career Suicide' is a collection of 9 songs featuring just her vocals and piano (that is excluding the last track 'Asking You' for it is mostly acapella). Lennon's voice isn't exactly the best voice ever, but she's a great song-writer and a great performer and that's what makes these songs great.
If you like '5:30 Saturday Morning', you will enjoy this. It isn't as good as '5:30' but it's still a great listen.
This album features 5 new songs plus 5 redone songs from '5:30' - the new songs are 'Jacob', 'What You're Saying', 'Goodbye', 'Main Gravel Road' and 'And You' - my favourite would have to be 'And You' - if you liked '5:30 Saturday Morning' the song, you'll love this one.
This is a great package and a must for any Lennon fan. If you've never heard of Lennon or you haven't heard the whole '5:30 album', I would recommend sampling the songs because I don't think this is for everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Support this girl!, November 30, 2004

"Career Suicide" is a return to Lennon's pre-"5:30 Saturday Morning" sound. This is not a permanent change - it's just another facet of her musical career. Buy this album - the girl needs to eat!
