I have to say the book was pretty entertaining. It is about four friends, but really focuses on two Renee and Danielle. I just really could not believe grown women with teenage children could behave the way these woman carried on. A lot of their behavior was extremely childish, and just plain stupid at times. Now if these characters were 18-24 then maybe I could see it, but women in their late thirties to mid forties I just don't buy it. As I was reading some of the scenes I just really couldn't believe what was happening. Had the characters been younger, I would have rated this higher, but many of the scenarios were just really unrealistic to me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Truth and Consequences, October 7, 2008

This review is from: Careful of the Company You Keep (Paperback)
CAREFUL OF THE COMPANY YOU KEEP by Angie Daniels is a romp through the trials and tribulations of four girlfriends: Danielle, Renee, Kayla and Nadine; however, the story centers, specifically, on Danielle and Renee. These two women are front and center because their friendship appears to be the closest of the bunch and the remaining two add a tad bit of normalcy or, better said, some common sense to the crew even though their lives could be a soap opera also.

All four women are single, some through choice, and others through divorce. Two of the four have teenage children, one is on the brink of marriage and implores her girlfriends to assist her with the planning of the wedding and the other is a lesbian, who attempts to have a child through surrogacy. All of these factors make for a wild and crazy ride.

CAREFUL OF THE COMPANY YOU KEEP pits girlfriend against girlfriend when one asks the other to test her man's fidelity, another is impregnated by the other's man unknowingly, one is cheating with someone else's guy and their children begin to date and the list goes on.

CAREFUL OF THE COMPANY YOU KEEP, while entertaining had me wondering if women this age really do behave this way. However, the ending did provide some revelations and redemptions for the characters. Hold on while you read this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Angie Daniels Has Done It Again!, September 22, 2008
This review is from: Careful of the Company You Keep (Paperback)
Renee, Danielle, Nadine, and Kayla have remained very close, even after the death of their beloved friend and sister Lisa Miller. Throughout the years, each of them have had their share of drama that could last a lifetime. With their tight friendship, they all go through obstacles that should break them apart, but it just made them even stronger. With Kayla's upcoming wedding, the friends find out that they will have to band together once again to make sure life as they know it does not come crashing down on them.

After promising her sister Lisa that she would give her marriage a second chance, Renee Moore remained with John even though he was not meeting all of her needs, especially in the bedroom. Then one day she found out that she wasn't the only one sleeping around. Ultimately, Renee will learn that the company you keep can be hazardous to your health.

Danielle Brooks thought she was finally done with the drama in her life. She thought the her ex-boyfriend (the love of her life) Ron had slept with her daughter and gotten her pregnant. While doing her everyday chores, Danielle finds out that her daughter was lying and was upset that Ron would not have sex with her. Danielle thought her world had fallen apart. She just knew that with a little begging and pleading she could get her "man" back. He did come back to her, but not in the way she wanted. Someone keeps leaving weird notes on her car. "Be Careful of the Company You Keep." Danielle finally finds out who and why the notes are left. The question is....Is it too late?

Author Angie Daniels has done it again. Careful of the Company You Keep gives the same energy as In the Company of My Sistahs, and Trouble Loves Company. This book gives you drama, suspense, laughter, and some very sincere moments. Ms. Daniels keeps you on glued to the pages. Just when you think you know what's going to happen, it's the complete opposite and you'll love even minute of it. In order to completely understand each character and what has happened in their lives, I recommend you read the first two installments. In this trilogy, Angie Daniels does not steer away from the original storyline. It continues on without a disappointing moment. I would highly recommend this book and the ones prior to this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Read But..., January 19, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you're looking for a juicy read, then this book is for you. If you're looking for a mature read, this book is NOT for you! I will admit I found this book to be very interesting and it held my attention, but the main characters were both annoying and immature. I agree with another reader, these characters don't seem like middle-aged women. I constantly had to remind myself that I wasn't reading about a group of teenagers. Additionally, I got sick of reading about the characters having wild, crazy, unprotected sex in almost every chapter. So while the book kept me entertained, I couldn't stop rolling my eyes at the wreckless characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be careful!, September 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I must say this is the first book I've read by Angie Daniels and I must admit I enjoyed it. The first chapter had me hooked to point I read half the book the day it came through on my Kindle (only because I started reading it at 6:30ish) and finished it the next morning.

The situations the two main characters, Renee and Danielle, got themselves in were a bit over the top considering their ages. Like someone previously commented I can see if the women were younger- maybe. I felt both Renee and Danielle were 'stuck on stupid' for the majority of the book. I would hate to imagine there are women out there (ages 40+) carrying on like the two of them. The other two, had minor 'roles' and was somewhat refreshing. I will have to read the other two books to find out more about Kayla and Nadine's characters.

Some of the storyline was a little unrealistic- like what happened with Danny and her daughter- sorry, my children come first and always will. Renee was a bit on the raw side but I enjoyed her character the most. She really went through some things in this book that actually made me tear up. I really felt for these women, looking for love in all the wrong places.

Overall, the book was very entertaining and would recommend it to my sisters, friends and co-workers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Entertaning!, July 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I really liked this book. I was funny and drama-filled up until the very end. The only problem I had with it is at the end she gave little synopsis on each character but one and it's the one I'm dying to know about...Regina!!!! What happened to Regina!!! I need to know this, it's bugging the hell out of me not knowing! But overall very good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Careful of the Company You Keep, April 7, 2011
After reading the first page I knew I would miss a few hours of sleep trying to finish this book. This is the first book I've read by Ms. Daniels but it definitely won't be my last.

This book start out wild, so I couldnt put it down until I finished it. The book was a very good read. 4 friends doing their thing. Danny who is confused to who she want to love, Nadine wanting to be a dyke, but dicking down Danny's friend (of course they dont know this yet) Kayla, who is trying to plan her wedding) and of Course Renee, who is trying to find love... Boy oh boy, this was such a good read... Keep up the good work Angie Daniels.
