Absolutely marvelous tale, December 3, 2010
This review is from: Be Careful What You Wish For... (Kindle Edition)
Imagine being ordinary. Imagine having that kind of life day after day after day, struggling to make it. Imagine having all of that for a life -- before your favorite team finally wins a long-awaited championship.
For Jonathan Bailey, this was his life: working in a cubicle for 8 years, married to a woman he met on the night of October 25, 1986. Their life isn't the greatest. They argue over everything -- even his love for the Boston Red Sox.
You see, Jonathan's love of the Red Sox became drilled into him at an early age. He is a fourth-generation Red Sox fan, doomed to root for a perennial underachiever, but as this story takes place, the Red Sox go on an unbelievable tear following a lightning strike at beloved Fenway Park. Despite the streak, a wisecracking radio sports personality says the Sox will blow it like they always do, but the team fails to do so: they win the World Series.
It is that one event that everything changes for Jonathan, for the most part -- for one long arduous campaign that he can barely pay attention to.
Yet hidden behind it all is a man who sent the team to an extend stay in baseball's purgatory. Exiled to Idaho, he tires of the team's woes and begins to pull strings -- and redeems himself in the process.
