This terrific little book reads smoothly and quickly. It was written by a true "caregiver" not just by someone in the helping profession. I identified immediately with author Billie Jackson and the stories she tells here. She's right--only another caregiver can understand the ups and downs and mixed feelings that come with looking after our aged loved ones. Perhaps the best advice she offers is to form a local caregivers' support group and she explains how to do it.Jackson's work and contacts indicate that there are far more caregivers hidden all over North America than we realize. Caring for an aging parent or spouse can be gratifying and pleasurable or an exhausting nightmare. Most of the time, it is a combination of these feelings--literally, an emotional roller coaster. This book was written to offer a common sense approach to solving some of the day-to-day problems faced by family caregivers. As our society ages, there will be an ever increasing need for family involvement in elder health care. Federal government budget cuts have seriously crippled Medicare/Medicaid funds for formal home health care. Patients are being discharged from the hospital sooner and sicker. Family members of these patients need all the help they can get.
