Nassif, Janet Zhun. The Home Health Care Solution: a complete consumer guide. Harper. Dec. 1985. c.448p. index. LC 85-42582. ISBN 0-06-015471-3. $17.95; pap. ISBN 0-06-096012-4. $9.95. health Both these books are indicative of the burgeoning trend of home health care as an alternative to expensive long- or even short-term institutional care. Nassif's is a thorough handbook for anyone looking for home care services, resources, alternatives, equipment, personnel, financial advice, and all the nitty-gritty practical aspects of arranging for someone's care. There are valuable sections on high-tech home care, insurance, choosing a hospice, and a self-assessment for determining home care needs. Horne's book is also for people considering home care for someone, but it accents the prospective caregiver: what to expect, the psychological aspects, communicating, basic care techniques, and much practical information on problems, finances, and other resources. The book as a whole is succinct and rather interesting. The section on Alzheimer's disease is very good. Appendixes include state agencies on the aging, and a ``Caregiver's Bill of Rights.'' Both books provide information not readily available elsewhere, and should be considerd for all public libraries. Nancy B. Burrell, M.L.S., IBID Inc., Sarasota, Fla.
