Book Description

Dark docks, gritty shipyards, diesel stained trains and trucks...cargo is a dirty business...and a deadly business. When ocean liners mysteriously sink and a dead body floats up under a cargo pier, a young reporter finds the story of his life. Problem is, can he keep his life long enough to tell it?

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun, ambitious work! March 8, 2012
This is a fun, ambitious work from a young reporter who eventually became a foremost American journalist. It's an especially good read for those who have spent their careers in a newsroom.

Relatively quick and very easy read. However, given the potential for sub-plots and story lines there regrettably is no real surprises!

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Novel About the Cargo Business March 12, 2012
Verified Purchase
As someone who once got lost at the Port of Long Beach (California), I've often wondered what mysterious things might be lurking among all that cargo. This novel brings that life -- through the eyes of a business reporter, set on hunting down the truth. This book is intriguing from the first page, and reads like a screenplay. I wouldn't be surprised if one day I am sitting in the movie theatre watching it on the big screen. This was a very enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read and Perhaps Our First Logistical Mystery February 2, 2013
Verified Purchase
In his early years, Allen Wastler was a transportation reporter at The Journal of Commerce, where he honed his knowledge of cargo before writing Cargo Kills. The knowledge shows, so that what you have here is a dual purpose read. It is highly entertaining, engaging and well-written. And it conveys in digestible bites a very sophisticated knowledge of global logistics. Really happy to read it -- and recommend it.
