Was skeptical on fit, as some say fits true to size, others.

I wanted to buy this jacket in order to replace my tired $120 North Face Bionic Jacket. So as to not look like yet another Bay Area drone, I decided to go with this Carhartt. After wearing this bad boy for 2 months, here's my 2-cent on this.

    PROS:
    - Made in USA. A big plus, if you ask me: not everyone can do banking or IT engineering. Good manufacturing jobs is essential. Carhartt does this.
    - Very sturdy, yet very nice looking, sort of urban revival of the bomber type jacket. I think it looks fantastic.
    - Comfortable and warm: blocks the wind easily, and then some.

    CONS:
    - It's *WARM*. And that makes it a bit uncomfortable anytime I get indoors, say in the train, at work or whatever. This jacket is made with some Wisconsin-type winter in mind, not the local watered-down kind (i.e. 40F).
    - It's NOT a replacement for a The North Face jacket, which is mostly a glorified, overpriced glazed piece of imported nylon designed to act as a windstopper.

Overall, though, I am hugely satisfied with this jacket. I love it, it looks good and will (obviously) keep me warm during our wild winter "storms".

Bought this jacket because I needed something warm when I work outside. Decided on this Carhartt and I'm glad I did. I can chop wood and handle all my dirty jobs, while staying warm and not worrying about any tearing or damage to my coat. The duck is extremely tough and the quilted lining inside is so comfy and warm... Overall the quality of this Carhartt is Superior to all and to say the least EXCELLENT!!! I am Extremely Happy to know that I will enjoy this product for many years to come..

I live in Fairbanks, AK, where it frequently gets to 40 degrees below zero. I prefer cold temperatures so the average person would get more use out of this than me. There were only a handful of days where it got cold enough for me to use this jacket. The zipper pull is large enough that you can easily use the zipper with gloves on.

FYI to anyone considering purchasing it... This is an OUTER LAYER. If you are normally a size Large and wear a Large jacket with just a long sleeved t-shirt, it will feel way too big.

I bought this jacket for my boyfriend as a gift and he really like it. I really recommend this jacket but they come a bit larger so u might want to get a smaller size.

The only work jackets that I've tried were Dickies Lined Eisenhower. They're not much better than a sweatshirt in terms of warmth. I lost my last Eisenhower in a customer's car so I needed a new jacket before it got chilly. I did some research and decided to try out the Carhartt J140. When the package arrived, boy was I surprised. This thing was built like a tank and the lining was 3 or 4 times thicker than my old Dickies. Downside was that the pockets are not lined. So weren't the Dickies but I was hoping the Carhartt were. Oh well, maybe I'll sew a liner inside.

The size was really hard to judge before ordering. I'm 5'11" and 170 lbs. I normally wear a Medium jacket from most major active brand wear such as TNF, Marmot, etc. From reading all the reviews, I came to the conclusion that a Small would fit me best. When I tried it on, it was slightly short down the waist, long on the arms (although a welcome length when my arms are out front or up high), puffy around the chest, stomach, and arms, and slightly tight in the armpits. But the armpits were probably due to the thick material that joins four corners kind of like the crotch in a pair of jeans. After wearing it a few times, I didn't notice it at all. There's enough room inside to comfortably wear a sweatshirt underneath. It's almost as big as a typical Large. Maybe between a Medium and Large. Pretty similar in cut to a high school letterman jacket. Definitely made for construction workers, lumber jacks, and vikings. But kidding aside, I'm pretty sure that the extra girth helps with range of motion.

The outter material is somewhat stiff but not as stiff as some people make it out to be. Wear it a couple of times and you won't notice it anymore. Hopefully after a few washes, it'll soften up even more.

Couldn't find a small in any local stores, I'm 5'7 140 lbs, med just felt like I was swimming in it. Was here in two days and $20 cheaper. Very happy I have a jacket now that should last forever. This thing is built like a tank

UPDATE, coming up on one year with this jacket and still couldn't be happier. Literally put this jacket through hell and after washing it tonight still looks great. Will buy another if I ever need too.

Good coat, great Carhart quality. Sizes run big though. I previously had a size large (5'8" 150lbs), & it felt big, so I ordered this size medium, & it feels about the same size. I wish I would have went even anothe size smaller.

If your looking for bang for the bucks without sacrificing quality, this is the coat for you. Picked mine up for around 70 dollars. I really don't think you can go wrong with this purchase and it looks quite good too. A comparable coat that's sold from Northface costs two to three times as much.
