////UPDATE: I've had the coat for two winters now, going in to my third, and I LOVE IT! No static charge like many quilted liners build up, the duck is holding up amazingly, all the stitching is still very solid. I wore this thing through Hurricane Irene digging a ditch to drain a field that was flooding, and after four hours of work in the rain the liner was still dry, even at the elbows. Very warm, too!\\\\

I followed the advice of some of the other reviewers and ordered a size up, which gave me a jacket that was considerably bulkier than I expected. I wear a 45T in a dress jacket, and am not a small man, but the extra large is broader across the chest than I strictly require. I'm okay with it, because it will allow me to layer heavily under the coat and not feel restricted when I zip the coat up, but the sizes on these jackets appear to run true to measure. The coat does tend to ride up when sitting down, but this is easily alleviated by grasping the wrists of the coat and using your elbows as fulcrums to bring the back of the jacket down before leaning back.

The cotton duck is very heavy duty, and I am confident that it will be able to handle all the rough country I choose to throw at it. The quilted lining is thick and very warm. I don't know yet if it will build a static charge like many of these coats do. I love the pockets, as well. The inside left breast pocket is a single hook and loop fastener at the center of the pocket, while the inside right breast pocket is a zipper. Both inside pockets are large, measuring larger than 5" x 6". The outside pockets are the same size, with double hook and loop fastener, and the outside slash pockets are incredibly deep, although not especially warm since they aren't lined on the inside.

The shrouded cuffs are a blessing, not so tight that they feel constricting but tight enough to keep the wind out and allow the jacket sleeves to be pushed up for especially dirty or wet work with the hands.

Overall, I am incredibly pleased with the material, the fit, the quality of worksmanship and the appearance of the jacket, and I will be purchasing Carhartt in the future, although I don't anticipate it being any time soon.

It's a carhart. It's very warm in snowy weather. However.. When I pay this much for a coat and select a size I want and it's still too big on me.. Ridiculous. I followed the size chart, selected the appropriate fit for my body type and it's still huge. Disappointing really but I is what it is.. Not gonna send it back only because I have to work in the cold everyday and can't wait for the returning process to get my money back and get another, smaller sized coat. Maybe I'll grow into it? Hopefully.

I purchased this carhartt jacket for my dad for christmas and must say it is a work of art! I have never purchase carhartt clothing before, but heard it was durable and represented a good value. This is all true, this jacket is very thick, warm and looks to be very durable. I was impressed with the all brass heavy duty double zipper, very nice!

Overall the jacket has perfect lenght and weight, will purchase more carhartt in the future, well done!

Ask anyone that's been in the construction industry in cold climates for any length of time and they'll tell ya, NOTHING beats Carhartt.

I know that it has become "popular" for guys that have never turned a wrench or used a shovel to now wear workboots and Carhartts as some fashion statement. And I crack up every time I see a rapper wearing it. Don't expect your Carhartts to fit like designer clothing. Yes, I know Carhartt is now making fashionable wear too, but I don't buy that. I buy Carhartt for one reason and one reason ONLY - they make the best work clothes - PERIOD.

You want warmth and ruggedness? You wear Carhartts. It will last forever. And the best part about the style is that it will never go out of style.....because it was never in style. haha It's built for warmth and ruggedness and not for fashion shows.

Note to folks new to Carhartts: You MUST treat the zippers when new. Use bar soap, candle wax or pencil led. The zippers are heavy duty and work like a bear if you don't lube 'em. Also, the water repelling needs to be replenished after washings. You can buy cans of silicone clothing waterproofing. Finally, Carhartts are HEAVY fabric and need to be broken in. Now I just wash them several times but when I was younger I would go "shagging" to break them in. Shagging is where you grab onto the bumper of someone's truck and let them drag you through the snow. Usually in a parking lot. Enjoy!

Oh and one more thing, there are several levels of insulation when it comes to Carhartts so do your research. If nothing has changed, their "black quilted Arctic" was always the warmest.

Super heavy duty coat, and very warm. Rugged outer shell, with a super heavy duty zipper. Ordered my size based on sizing chart offered, and it fit perfectly. I normally wear large jackets and shirts, but a medium fit perfect. Plenty of room to layer under it if need be. Highly recommended. Real work coat/jacket.

best quality for anyone who wants a well made and stiffer fabric for protection from the elements. It apears to be waterproof, definitely warm, and soft padded inside. bought it for my son who works outside in the elements. The quality is unbelievable! some sweatshirts cost more than this.

We bought this for my husband and it is a perfect size for a coat. My husband wears a large size shirt and this coat in the large size fits him exactly how he would like a coat to fit. It is also a nice coat in terms of looks, and it is manufactured nicely.

Sturdy! Can take a tremendous amount of abuse. The 'small' fit our growing teen son perfectly...sizing chart was right on. Only complaint has to do with the fact that Carhart has recently moved the production of this particular coat to Mexico. Would be nice if they kept it in the US .
