Awesome Boot, August 23, 2009
This review is from: Carhartt Men's ST Waterproof Hiker (Apparel)
The Carhartt Hiker is a great boot, period. I am a construction worker who walks anywhere from 3 to 10 miles every day at work on the site. I tried Wolverine Moc Toes, I loved them, but they were worn out and unwearable after 6 months. Then I switched to the Carhartt 3939 9" Logger/Lineman Boot, which was awesome, while slightly less comfortable than the Wolverine Moc Toe, the Carhartt loggers lasted more than twice as long than the Wolverines, lasting over a full year and, as I estimated, 1500 miles of wear and tear. Even though they were twice as expensive and lasted twice as long plus a month or so, I consider them a better value because the Carhartt Lineman boot needed virtually no breaking in and the Wolverines were misery for the first two weeks (And I would have had to go through that twice during the same time fame that I owned the Linemans). After the Linemans Boots wore out, I figured I'd try the Carhartt Hiker Boot, since I walk so much, its almost as if I go on a long hike everyday. I longed for something lightweight.
Let me preface this by saying that I am convinced, through years of experience, trying to find the best of every type of gear for high endurance use, that Carhartt doesn't make any poor product and that anything you buy from Carhartt is going to be worth whatever price you pay for it. The hiker boot it very lightweight. You can hardly even tell that you are wearing it. And it is durable (so far). I have been wearing the hiker for seven months already, the full lifespan of the Wolverine Moc Toe, and it is not even showing ANY wear and tear yet. Time will tell if it is as durable as the Carhartt Lineman Boot. <<Keep in mind that the life of these boots as reported is based on an estimated 1500 miles/year>>
///Despite the fact that it is less expensive and lighter than the Linemans Boot, I'm pretty sure that I will return to the Lineman after these wear out simply due to the fact that the Hiker's tongue is BIG and does not flatten out with use. For me, it folds over in strange ways within the boot and creates an uncomfortable fit. Maybe it won't bother you as much as it does me, and in that case the Hiker is the best boot you could buy (Based on my experience), but for me, its a fatal flaw.///
UPDATE: After 8 months, the tongue conforms to fit and the boot becomes perfect.

I have been using these boots for some time. This is my 4th pair. They are comfortable, and have good traction, which is important to me me in my job as a lubricator. Where these boots really stand out however,is their ability to keep your feet dry. That's right, DRY. I have worked in the pulp making industry for 38 years, and these boots are the best I've ever owned when it comes to being truly water proof.Like all leather boots of course, they will succumb to acid and caustic if walked in over the months. These boots last quite a long time and really are waterproof. If you're tired of buying "waterproof" boots that never quite deliver as advertised, then you'll be glad you purchased these...

Carhartt 3904 boots, September 11, 2011
Great boots. Very little time to break in. Very sturdy and solid. Extremely comfortable and I know they last long because this is my third pair. I get at least a solid year out of each pair. I am in construction and I weigh 280 pounds so I really need solid boots and these definitely fit the bill. I highly recommend these boots.
