Very warm jacket and it looks nice!
Fits perfectly and his sleeves are perfect that even when he raises his arms up, it's still long enough and doesn't ride up as well as the waist area.
I bought it my son's size which is small & it fit him just perfect.

This jacket is great. I love it. I recommend not buying one on-line until you have tried one on in person. The sizes in the different products are different. For example in the "active jac" the M is super huge and the small is perfect, while in the "sierra" the small is too small and the M is perfect. Most stores don't carry anything smaller then L, so finding one in a store is nearly impossible. After going to many stores I finally found examples of every size, although in bizarre or undesirable colors, which gave me confidence to buy one on-line.

Bought this coat for our grandson as he begins his career as a deep water diver. He needed a warm coat suitable for "work": cold days on board a ship with wind blowing cold trips back and forth by helicopter, etc. The thing is, our grandson has been "addicted" to clothing from Abercrombie & Fitch" and other such overpriced clothing stores. and he LOVES this coat. It has the "cool factor" he so wants. The look of the sanded duck material plus the sherpa lining make it the broken in look and feel he likes. And the brown color must be the in thing. I like it because it will probably keep him warm. It's a good buy.

This jacket is tough and warm. I ordered it down a size. I have had a Carhartt jacket before and I bought a large....huge. I'm 5'10 170 lbs with broad shoulders and usually wear a large. I ordered a medium and it fits like it's tailored. I bought this and a Carhartt heavy weight sweatshirt and couldn't be happier with both the products. It is a very warm jacket. I've worn it on days where it's around 30 degrees F and had to unzip it when I was working. Just like the sweatshirt I bought too, I've gotten this caught on cables and chains thinking I ripped it and didn't. Very durable. I ordered black since I'm rolling around on the ground hooking up cars to my tow truck. Even the fabric cleans off easily. I've gotten grease and oil on it and it washed right out. Blew my mind. Don't be discouraged by people who leave these reviews that have no idea what they're talking about. It's a working jacket, it's tough and it WILL keep you warm...too warm sometimes but I'd rather be too warm than be wearing a $100 jacket that doesn't keep me warm.

I've owned a sandstone sierra jacket for a year now, and it has become and remained my favorite jacket.

A necessary disclaimer, I agree with fellow review'ees that it is best to try these on in person (a good rule for clothing in general). With that out of the way, I bought this jacket at a local Fred Meyers. I was sick of wearing just a fleece and wanted something more substantial. I also didn't want some crazy, bloated winter coat, just a nice 'all around' in-between jacket that could stand up to the elements. They had a nice carhartt section, a brand I like, so I spent a good amount of time sorting through it.

The Sandstone Sierra was a great choice. The medium fit me perfectly. When I say that, I mean I have never worn a coat or jacket that is this good fitting. Most coats I've worn seem to just hang off my shoulders, with lots of empty space between the coat and your mid section, especially towards the bottom. One of my favorite things about this jacket is that it envelopes me naturally, like a glove, without being uncomfortably tight or restrictive. In other words, it gently contours your upper body, which in turn feels quite nice, and keeps out the cold drafts.

I also quite like the hood, which looks great, and is lined with mountain-esque sherpa fleece lining. This extends down throughout the entire mid section, adding a layer of warmth.

The sleeves of the jacket have smooth nylon lining, which means taking it off or putting it on is easy. The cuffs are another favorite feature; they do not protrude out, remaining inside the jacket an inch or two. This frankly looks better in my opinion, and has the benefit of keeping them protected from water and wear, all while keeping the cold out.

It's a jacket; it's a coat; it's a hoodie. It's all of those things, tough as nails and attractive to boot. The distressed look and feel of the "Sandstone" fabric seems to have completely sidestepped all of the complaints I'd ever had on Carhartt outerwear (which always reminded me of trying to wear a stiff canvas tarp). A little Nikwax Cotton Proof (sorry for the plug - but please look it up) and it's also bulletproof to the elements without effecting the feel or breathability of the fabric whatsoever. What more could one ask for?

Okay yeah, so the sizing did seem kind of funny when I tried it on at first in the retail store. I don't normally need a Extra Large Tall - just an Extra Large). Strange that the XLT had fit me like a custom-made glove. The thought of Carhartt's crazy sizing nagged at me all the way home - until the fact dawned on me as I arrived there that my leather motorcycle jacket (the one with the with super long sleeves meant to cover gloves) was the only piece of outerwear in my closet that didn't expose between 2-6 inches of my wrist whenever I tried to do anything more than scratch my nose. I was surprised enough at realizing this that I actually went through my entire long-sleeve wardrobe and found exactly the same problem with every single stitch. All the sleeves were too short! Granted, I am built like a mountain gorilla elsewhere too... but I had honestly thought I could slide by with normal, off-the-rack, largish-human sized long as I cuffed them and didn't raise my arms too much. But no, apparently I am an extra large (and tall) king of the apes - and that's the sizing demographic Carhartt was geared towards. It IS work wear after all...

So in summation, I ultimately found the sizing to be appropriate; loved the coat enough to order another one in a different color and am now very happy living in the mist and eating bananas. My sincere thanks to Carhartt for finally set me straight.
