Very disappointed in this rock! Absolutely looks NOTHING like the picture.

Two rocks were smaller than apples!

Eight rocks shipped total in the package and ONLY 2 had holes.

Texas Holey Rock is indigenous to Texas of course hence the name. It's a combination of two minerals - calcite and dolomite essentially it's limestone. I've used it for decades on account of it's natural beauty and ability to maintain PH ( Potential Hydrogen) levels at the upper end of the Alkaline spectrum.

This makes it perfect for African Cichlids, Fancy Ornamental Goldfish and other marine life that flourishes at a PH between 7.2 and 9. I think the simple rule of thumb is that you always want the PH of your tanks to match or at the very least come very close to the PH of the tanks inhabitants blood.

Texas Holey Rock sometimes called Honeycomb Rock is perfect for this - it's a natural buffer and frees you from relying on chemicals to adjust the PH of your tanks water. In addition it keeps your PH stable so fluctuations become a thing of the past. These rocks do leech meaning they slowly dissolve over time.

Over the past few decades I've picked out each piece of rock usually on auction sites like eBay. But I have found that many of the rocks arrived dirty and I have no way of knowing what chemicals if any the rocks may have been exposed too.

I've always been fond of CaribSea, they're an environmentally friendly and aware company and have an excellent selection of live sand, substrates, media and so on. I have always found the quality of their product superb - and these rocks are no exception.

This was the absolute best price on the CaribSea 40 pound pack that I could find. Texas Holey rock isn't cheap and I've seen pieces selling upwards of $10 per pound. Considering how beautiful these rocks are and how fast they arrived this is an absolute steal.

The box I received had 8 large pieces, one over 12 inches high!

I bought these some time ago, not from Amazon, but same exact item number from Caribsea. Out of a box full of rocks, only one small rock was interesting enough to use in my aquariums. Most of them had no holes at all. The box now sits in the back of my closet. What a waste. You take your chances on any driftwood or holey rock purchase over the internet unless you can see a picutre of the exact item you are buying.
