Product Description

PurpleUp - uses a unique dual method approach to coralline algae acceleration. This approach is so unique that PurpleUp has been awarded a US patent (US patent No. 7,565,883). It contains ionic calcium; which immediately raises dissolved calcium levels in your aquarium water. At the same time Super Sea Calcium (a 10 micron aragonite powder derived from natural seawater) targets the live rock surface. This dissolves in situ; delivering calcium, strontium, magnesium, and carbonate right where it's needed. PurpleUp also replenishes iodine; an essential element for coralline algae tissues that quickly becomes depleted in closed systems. PurpleUp is not a fertilizer, it does not promote the growth of nuisance algae.

2.0 out of 5 stars I think it works, February 11, 2007

I have a reef tank, but i'm just not sure if this product works. It does increase the calcium levels in the tank simply because it is a solution of pulverized argonite or other calcium compound. I had great success with a part a&b solution. My father uses it and likes it but it does leave the argonite residue on everything, and it has harden in the sump so when it is disturbed, white flakes shoot out the return.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eh..., May 19, 2010
This review is from: CaribSea Purple Up Algae Accelerator, 16-Ounce (Misc.)
I think this stuff works. I am sure it would. However...keeping your levels in check will have the same result. From a fresh setup it'll take a tank about 6 months to start producing coralline and from there it can be quite prolific. Mine produces its own. I have used purple up but never seen any so called acceleration. My friend has a tank set up for about 3 years, never used an accelerator and he can't scrape the coralline off the glass fast enough. He runs his calcium level 460-500 ppm. Mine is more 420-440 ppm. Personally I wouldn't bother using it..it's just another consumable taking your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Purple Up..., December 22, 2011
This review is from: CaribSea Purple Up Algae Accelerator, 16-Ounce (Misc.)
Purple Up has worked for me. I love the product. It's easy to use. Just add the recommended amount on the label. My live rock has never looked better and purple algae is growing on everything in my tank. I have to clean the front of the tank all the time to prevent purple algae from growing there too. Be patient and consistent with it and you will get results like you never before.
