1.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book, but awful recipes, September 19, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Caribbean Cooking (Quintet Book) (Hardcover)
Pictures of almost every recipe but........the recipes are not authentic! The dal puri looks like bakes with a dal filling, the bakes recipe looks like crix! The pulori looks like accra, and the baiganee looks like...I don't even know! Thats how far it is from the real thing. No wonder this book is selling for so cheap on all those websites. It's really awful. The author isn't from the caribbean, it says she is from Mauritius; (the book claims our cuisines are similar). Maybe the recipes in her book reflect the cuisine from there but it's definitly not caribbean. Some recipes could pass, so to speak, such as beef patty, and buljol, but too many others are just plain wrong. So, in conclusion, the recipe names are the same; saheena, polouri, dal puri, calaloo but the ingredients and the methods and final product are to far from caribbean cuisine. This book may be good for a tourist or someone from Mauritius but not a West Indian.
